Lightproof Bins

Does anyone know how important it is for the bins to be 100% lightproof?

The bins at StealthHydro look like your standard WalMart bins that are not 100% lightproof.

Painting or using duct tape is a real pain. So can regular bins be used straight from the store?

you can use anything, as long as you use aluminum tape that is not transparent, see through. hole it up to the sun and run your hand on the other side, if you see a shadow, it wont work.

Important, I've seen roots get better after the SH system container has been darkened... so I did the same. Albeit with tin foil, but hey its dark.

Like roseman says, roots are usually in the ground, they like it dark ;)

Get spray paint for plastic. Paint them black to stop light and then white over that for reflectivity. Even those translucent totes can be used this way.

That's what I thought. I wasn't so worried "how" to do it, it's more of do I "have" to do it.

Thanks for the advise.
