Lighting

I am considering growing inside because we have a finished, but not furnished, basement. I have a place where the flat screen is supposed to go and the cabinent next to it pulls out into a 10x5 ft room. I am only looking to grow 2 plants but I may do like 8 or so. I want lights that would be safe to keep down there all day without me having to worry about my house burning down or some other crazy shit like that, and the circulation in the room is pretty shitty so I need something that keeps cool, but do not want to go cfl. I have about 100 dollars to spend on my setup and will be building my own grow box.

What would you reccomend for 2 plants? It is a northern lights strain. The rest are bagseed and are not my main concern.

If you only intend on doing two or so plants then you could build a small box out of 2"x4"'s and cover it with white light proof tarp with velcro to keep sealed when your not tending to your babies. As far as lights go you may have to spend more than you originally intended to if you don't want to go with cfl's. The cheapest HID light and ballast that would be suitable for two small to medium plants that I am aware of is $117. For ventilation you could use a small pc fan.

Here the the link to that HID light, they have cheaper one's, but I just don't think they are good enough for two medium sized plants: http://www.htgsupply.com/growlighttypes.asp?categoryID=1&subcategoryID=155

as far as lights go i think a 400 hps will suit you best, if $100 is your budget then i think you should check craigslist, i always see lights there under the farm and garden section, but truthfully you are going to have to spend more than a bill when its all said and done, at some point you will probably need to invest in some kind of odor control but you really wont need that until flowering
