Lighting , what to do with this space?

Well, you can flower with the cfl's, several folks here are doing this and have posted journals of thier efforts.

Obviously with the room shape, the top 6-12" is not much usable.

Would just like some input.
Will a HPS fit?

I see some setups with vented hoods.
I cannot afford an elaborate system like that.
And don't have the physical capabilities to renovate my house.

It is a 1 door room.
Was hoping I could make a simple box for flowering in.
With blower fan for an intake fan on the floor, and an exhaust fan exhausting out the top. (something small and light, like a PC fan.

What is best for this space I have?

It's not obviuos to me that the top 6 to 12" is not usable, I will take you word for it. That would make the usable space 4' high?? No. you would not want to put a furnace it that space. The light will take approximately 18" of you height, and the pots and sytem will take up a foot or so. Anymore and you would be in the hole.
The best light for your flowering plants is the 4'-8 tube t-5 fixture, mix 1/2 red and 1/2 blue. VV
