I am about to grow 1 plant in my upstairs room for personal use...i have read about a million different ways for light setups and which lights to get..I was hoping somone could make it simple for me as im looking to spend no more than 150bux on lighting..like i mentioned i will only have a single plant and if there is a recommended GrowKit for my price that would be much appreciated..as far as the amount of space i have, i can either grow in my closet or just freely somewhere in the room so space isnt a problem...thanx for any help

maybe 1 or 2...i have interests in growing tropical plants and flowers indoors as well, so i will need the lights for a wide variety of plants and flowers...its just a little hobby but id like to get the best equipment up front so as to have little to do in the longrun...im not naive enough to think 150bux will do it but for now thats all i wanna invest to see if my interests peak further with the projects..i was told that if i could successfully grow cannabis i could pretty much grow anything w/novice skill...looking for something (lighting wise) that i could get different range bulbs for and would have easy hanging capabilities...thanks for any input you may provide...ps..by the way i have the necessary fertilizers and soil mixtures that should suffice for me so i do not need any knowledge on that aspect....thanks again

you can get a 400w hps for 130 off amazon. it will light a 3x3 area and you can grow whatever you like. you can get a 250 hps for cheaper. apollo is a good brand.

ebay 'led grow light', click the auction box. that's your best bet. bring results back to the forum for advice, if you want. if you study a bit it's easy to learn what LED brands are the best, and the deals on ebay can't be beat.

going with hps is choosing tech that's already obsolete. it works, but it's nowhere even near the best. You'd need to worry about the heat it expends and the electricity consumption boost only to end up with something that's less efficient and the same start cost of an LED. 400w is going to put out a lot of heat and consume a lot of juice for 1 plant.

Go for a full-spectrum LED so it will cover all your plants bases. it will say something like 7-band or 11-band spectrum depending on how many different wavelengths are being used.

something like:

http://www.ebay.com/itm/Pro-7-Band-Hydroponic-600w-Hydro-LED-Plant-Grow-Light-Flowering-IR-UV-/331262843140?pt=US_Hydroponics&hash=item4d20cdd904

(which would actually be more equivalent to a 1000w HPS, way more than you'd want probably - that was just a good model at a good price.)

http://www.ebay.com/itm/HOT-Apollo-360W-10bands-Flower-Plants-Powerful-LED-Grow-Light-Better-Penetration-/201128665200?pt=US_Hydroponics&hash=item2ed433e070

http://www.ebay.com/itm/HOT-GoldRing8-520W-High-Yield-LED-Grow-Light-Grow-Faster-Flower-Bigger-Best-Cho-/161366934514?pt=US_Hydroponics&hash=item25923803f2

would suit your needs just fine I think. you can get a really good deal on LEDs off ebay, they're a pretty big selling item right now with lots of listings. The make of the light is what's important, what will determine it's quality. The apollo, gold ring, and vipar are a few of the better names for warehouse-sale LEDs. 250w of LED is roughly equivalent to 400w of HID in the amount of umols (useable plant light) they produce.

leds have a smaller light footprint, it's harder to light a large space with a single LED fixture. the cheaper models can be prone to failure. A lot of companies simply rebrand chinese-made LEDs and charge a huge mark-up for it so it's easy to pay way more for one than it's worth.

Those are the main drawbacks I can think of, but most growers I'm watching on Youtube are using LEDs, or transitioning their grows from HID to LEDs over time.

Never have given led's much thought honestly. Not sure if I would trust a cheap one at this point. Again I know shit about them but have seen some pretty nice grows under them. And yes that is the same light as I have. Had it for three years now and no issues with ballast yet. I dont actually use the 400 anymore, using a 600. As for hanging it, i dont see many viable options. Heat is an issue to be sure, extraction and intake are needed. I actually shut down in the summer and move outside with auto's this year.

im thinking with the heat situation, i may need to check more into Leds...my upstairs is already not cooled as i have to install a new ac unit so the heat would be a major problem...thanks guys for the info...gives me an idea where to start

been browsing around and holy Sh%t they are expensive..and a lot to choose from....
what about something like this..would this be sufficient for me u think?..http://www.ebay.com/itm/VIPAR-LED-Grow-Light-Flower-Spectrum-3W-5W-Indoor-Hydroponic-Plant-Panel-Lamp-/121170620721
Think that's a 7 band light, mostly blue and red. Since you will be growing more than just MJ, i'd recommend a 10 or 11 band spectrum light. Something that's going to have yellows and greens in it too. I mean, the 300w vipar would be a suitable replacement for a 400w HPS/MH, but you might be able to find something better. The best deals will be in auctions, too. You just have to get lucky.

really appreciate it...i need to do a lot more research on the Leds...its like a whole different ball game and i dont want to get ripped the hell off w/ some kind of cheap knockoff...had no idea the lighting aspects could get so deep...
