Which light puts off the most heat?

1. 150w HPS (with built in ballast)

2. 250w HPS (with external ballast... Also with the ballast outside the tent)

thinking of an upgrade but not sure about the heat

Ballasts put off alot of heat. I do not have first hand experience with that small of a lamp but if that was my decision to make, i would opt for the 250 with ballast outside the tent.

I had a 1000w and a 4ft 4bulb t5 fixture in my tent along with my 6" fan and my temps were in the 90s. I removed the t5 fixture and temps dropped about 10 degrees to the 80s, I put my fan outside the tent and now i hover anywhere from 68-78 when lights are on/off. The ballasts are the main heat producers. Bulb will give off some heat but you have a better shot with the ballast outside the tent.

i have a 150w mini Floralux HPS (has enclosed hood with glass lens, it also has a 4" cooling flange on the top of the hood.

so would it be a good idea to buy ANOTHER 150w mini Floralux and run an inline fan to each light pulling the heat from the hoods instead?

i mean thats 300w of hps and would only cost me $65, rather than buying a 250w for $100+
