I've had friends grow 1 plant under a weak 65w CFL for 6 months, and it turned out like crap....but it turned out.

It will grow, but it will take a while.

As long as you have about 100w or more you'll be fine, I would put the 50w HPS over the plant and hang the CFLs around the sides of the plant to maximize light efficiency.

yeah i was planning on putting the hps on the top and the cfls on the sides. my problem now is how to hang the hps in the closet.
