Light while buddin????

hey ppl, just a bit curious about what a friend said! i currently have my lplants under the lighting system 12-12 for budding, my mate said that if there in 10 hours light and 14 hours dark its better for budding as they have a longer growing period, now with me having them in 12-12 already would it kill my plants if i change there lighting? and is it true that its better to bud in 14 hours dark?????

Book learned, indoor cannabis grw bible, by jorge. and othiers never herd of any thing diff than 12/12 from barn grower to dixxie cup growers. Just my thoughts. DBB.
