Light Schedules

Talking Photo Period plants here..

I know we all generally run veg either 24/day or some schedule where the lights are on more than 12 hours a day, say 16 on and 8 off. I run 24 hours...

Then when we switch to flower, we switch the lights to 12 on and 12 off (generally) to induce flowering...

In nature, the light schedule changes slowly from long days to short days, not suddenly.

Obviously switching suddenly works, otherwise we wouldn't do it.

Would there be any benefit to being able to schedule our lights in a way that would mimic nature, and gradually change the schedule? Maybe faster than nature would, or not, any thoughts?

This has been discussed alot here and tested. Following an emol light schedule doesnt make any difference than 12/12

That would save some electricity, cut down on heat if the veg light was off when the flower light is on... all round good idea. Light discipline isn't an issue right? I could come and go turning on the room light? I flower in a tent, veg in the open

remembering to turn lights on and off is a pain you can buy a timed switch if need be
a switch with a timer...

No no, sorry, what I meant was, right now, my veg light is on 24 hours a day, the veg area is just a corner of the spare bedroom. I also have a 4x4 tent for flowering in the same room, it's light is on 12/12.
My question about light discipline was about turning the bedroom ceiling light on during those 8 hours of darkness (for the veg plants)
I know you can't do that to flowering plants, but we\'re not trying to build up hormones here, just saving some money right?
So, during the 8 hour rest period, will it stress the plants if I come in and turn on the bedroom light?

Hope it's more clear now...

Ya no problem. Just be sure by sitting in your tent and have someone turn on that light. Even the slightest light leak will cause problems to the flower tent

The tent site right beside the 400W MH light for the Veg plants... I don't have any light leaks in it... I'm good to go, thanks!

18-6 VEG (19:00 ON - 13:00 OFF)
12-12 BLOOM (19:00 ON - 07:00 OFF)

I run gavita controller which can do a soft start of I think 200w to 1150w taking 30mins and sims down the same way 30minutes before off) I don’t use this setting, giver power asap.

As per times I wouldn’t mess with veg times, I’ve heard guys hermie or never finish flowering. If you run a tight schedule and see things not ripening you can drop it 11/13 and a few days later 10/14, tried that and it works as well as turn the AC down to 60c in my case. Purple and frost :)
