I use a cfl for bare bulb vertical with my clones to get side growth. It surprisingly works really well.

When I made a cfl hood i used a piece of round air duct from a home improvement store, you can buy them flat and bend it yourself into what ever shape you want. like the other dude said paint it white it works better.
