Light Questions for First Grow

Hi, i have two plants, both are from femd Northern Lights seeds from Nirvana, they are three weeks old from germination. I had 24 hour light on them since sprout up until a few days ago i switched to 20/4 because i feel like they need a dark period. What is everyone's input on 24 light vs 20 or 18 light? Also is it bad that i switched them? I didn't think it would be since they are still vegging. Temps range from 72-90F, they don't seem to mind the higher temps at all. I don't pay attention to humidity much, but its usually from 30-60. One plant is 5 inches, and the other is 3.5", is this healthy height for a plant 3 weeks from germination?
Thanks in advance for any input! :eyesmoke:

What kind of lights are you using? I have done both 24 hour veg and 18/6, been successful both times its more of a preference. 18/6 would be closer to replicating the outside sunrise/sunset but both work fine.
Those temps are a bit high, as it would be better to keep plants in temp range of 68-78 and humidity higher in veg 50-70%. You probably didn't cause too much stress for the plant but try not to make any unnecessary changes.
DOnt change the light cycle until flowering 12/12. Show us some pictures if you can

Underground1337- thanks for the reply! Yeah I'm completely new to growing, once I get my exhaust system in my veg room my temps will go down. That should be soon.

I don't know how to control my humidity really, but many times when I check it, it is well into the 50s and 60s, so I won't worry about that.

As for lighting, I'm running 6 6500k CFLs, for two plants right now. There could be up to 4 in veg sometime soon though. Should I add more light? I won't change schedule again until flowering. What lights do you recommend for flowering? Cheap if possible

For cfls you wont need to much of an exhaust system, maybe a 50 cfm fan or something.. You should get an oscillating fan to move the air around in the room that should help with higher temps.
You can control the humidity with a humidifier, you can get one for about 40-60 bucks. Its important to keep your humidity steady.
Those 6 cfls will be ok for 4 plants as long as you keep them right up close to the tops of the plant. More light the better though.
It all depends on what your situation is. What is your budget? You can get a 400w hps ballast and everything for 200 - 250 maybe. Can your flower room fit that light? Will you be able to exhaust heat?
All questions to consider before choosing your lighting

Honestly since I live in a hot ass place, heat is a big issue so CFLs might be my only choice, maybe just use more than six? I could add side lights in my veg room couldn't I? In veg room the lights are all about 6 inches above the plants, is that close enough?

Ill probably end up using CFLs for flowering due to money restraints and heat limitations.

My budget is reaaaal low. After buying some fans, I won't be able to spend muh more than 100 total for flowering room. After a few harvests I will be able to upgrade my set ups, but until then, ill have to make due using storage bins and boxes.
