Light Question: Can you break up the hours of light or just go all hours at once

Not sure if you can understand the question. I'am looking to keep the room as cool as possible to keep the 400w MH as close as possible to plants.

I was thinking since I'am going 16/24 as my veg routine can I break up the 16 hours of light into, just for example, 2 on 1 off 2 on 1 off, etc.

Thanks

Never heard of doing this... I wouldn't try it. You'll confuse the plant's photosynthesis. Get some fans blowing across the top of the plants, underneath the light and that should help. There are cheap window A/C units on Craigs' List. Saw one for sale at Home Depot for $99.

I think that much fluctuation could really stress your plants out. Invest in a better cooling system instead. Try out a cool tube and some more fans maybe?

My setup runs CFLs, but because of its tiny size, It gets hot in no time!

To cool things down and to preserve my lamps, I cycle a 24 hour veg BUT - 165 minutes on, 5 minutes off.

So far, plants seem to not mind it one bit!

Hope you work something out! Cheers.

I have one of these cooling a 600W HPS in a 5X5 tent. Admittedly, they cost a bit to set up, but this thing is blowing cold air out the hood exhaust just like an AC. You can daisy chain multiple lights on one heat exchanger too. The manual recommends a 1/4 HP chiller and a 250 CFM fan or stronger for every 1000 watts of light cooled. I got a used chiller on craigslist for $300+ off retail, so you can do it on a budget with some proper scrounging. The best part is this lets you run a fully sealed system (provided you suppliment CO2,) not only does this increase yeild but this also makes pest control easier than ever. Just crank up the gas and watch those creepy crawlies suffocate! Anyone else here tried an Icebox? Results/Opinions?
