light intensity and herms?

My question is about changing the intensity of the light while still in veg. I use cfls for veg but find that the HPS light promotes closer node spacing. So for a few hours a day I've been placing my little ones in the flower space. Also when it was warm enough I sometimes would throw them outside for a few hours. I remember reading somewere here on RIU that it was bad to switch it up. I disregarded this info because they loved it and still do. But yesterday I found that my most beautiful baby was covered in balls. I'm not sure if I just didn't know it was male, or if it hermed the fuck outta me? What do y'all think?

Usually, if it wasn't just a male you missed, light leaks are more the cause rather than intensity. It could also be the genetics, but for a true opinion, put a picture of the plant up. I'm sure more people will chime in. GL and ATB!

Usually in my crop if I have a plant growing a lot faster than others 90% chance it's going to end up having balls, maybe just my luck! I wouldn't think that intensity would cause to big of problems, more changing the light cycles time would have effect on making a plant go herm. You may have just missed the balls.

I'm also thinking thinking that I just missed it, it kills me to admit it because I spent like a month LSTing it was my first main-line. It was beautiful. As for the ones that I have now, there isn't any change in the light cycle just a few hours of hid and the rest of the time cfl.

So I've been googling my Q all morning and I really can't find anything on this topic. I did how ever put the little ones in there this morning, thell be geting the HPS for about 8 hours today. Like I said above, there getting the same amountamount of light (time frame) each day. The only thing changing is CFL to HPS

I would say they "won't" herm from going from CFL to hid or daylight if they are ok with cfls, HOWEVER! I have seen all sorts of issues with plants getting good strong light then being put under cfls and nearly starve to death. Like really a week later I thought dead for sure but they did recover when returned to good strong lights.

Imo light only really causes hermis when heat or water are not taken care of, or if the bulb is too close to colas then those buds can tend to bleach and pop male flowers. When I had a 1000 watt bare bulb 2 inches from a cola it did this mildly...
