Ive been running my lights on 24 hour light...Im putting the girls to sleep this weekend. Last couple grows Ive went from 24 on directly to12on/12 off.

So thinking of easing them into night cycle. Maybe 18 on/6 off or something along those lines??

Ive heard that switching that drastic can shock them? Just looking for opinions Thanks

There are two theories. One is a nice slow transition into flowering with 24/0, 18/6, 14/8, 12/12. The other theory is to basically run into their bedroom screaming at the top of your lungs. In this method you would go and put the girls in the dark for 1-2 FULL days. They start to bud faster and typically go into hyperdrive. I usually just do 18/6 then tack on another 6hours of dark at the end of my 18/6.

na if your going from veg to flower
put alspeep for 24hrs to reset ther internal clock
then 12-12 no need to ease em into anything

Just went from 24/7 to 12/12. No ill effects, and they have a bunch of hairs going 5 days since switch.

First, I can tell you there are a lot more than 2 theories regarding light cycles. This one is based on actual plant physiology:

During veg cycle mj cannot benefit from more than 14 hours of light. You can make them think they are getting more light by running some IR for ~ 30 minutes after lights out; < 50 watts in a 4 X 4 area should do the trick

In flower 12/12 is not recommended as the plant does not know which way to go. So 11/13 or 10/14 is best

Also google 12/1. It requires computer to control lights but some commercial growers are using it. It came from commercial rose growers...

Never seen a plant get shocked by light, other than going from low light inside to full sun outside...but changing the cycle will not freak the plant out...I don't use 24/7 at all though...so can't tell you too much on that, other than changing from 24/7 to 18/6 to 12/12 would probably end about the same as 24/7-12/12

How can you say that.Everything I have read , and did my self, with12/12 has worked great?Yes you can go 11/13 or 10/14, but at what cost. There pro's and con's to that too^^.

12/12 has always worked best for me.

"In flower 12/12 is not recommended as the plant does not know which way to go. So 11/13 or 10/14 is best?" WHAT? 12/12 is recommended by at least 90% of growers. Personally, I have flipped both ways with the same variety (Violator Kush) as an experiment. I have gone straight from 18/6 to 12/12 (took about 7 days to show flower) and I have put into 36 hrs dark before 12/12 (took about 3 days to show flower, but then you can add another day for the dark period.) So, I guess what I am saying is the 36 hr dark period initiated flowering 3 days earlier in all. However, there is a trade-off. The plus side is a minor saving in electricity. The minus side is an increase in the possibility of hermies (I got 3 tiny, immature seeds in 16 oz in the 36hr dark grow, none in the straight flip, also produced 16 oz.) Whatever, 12/12 is generally regarded as best, with the possibility of 10/14 for the last 2 weeks of flower.
