light and room size question

Is 2x 1000 watt lights enough for a 100 square foot room? Also will I need an AC unit? I can leave the door open if needed long story short old windows looking for an easy option if coolair will be needed

Each 1,000 watt HPS covers a 4x4 area as a rule of thumb. You need more lights.

A ductless mini split is the best option for air conditioning otherwise you have smell issues. An AC is recommended if your region is "warm."

Opening windows and doors allows even more smell out.

Be prepared to stink up your neighborhood potentially.


If you do not have one, purchase a carbon filter and an inline fan to at least scrub your room exhaust. Really plan things out, do not germinate anything until your room is ready.

If your plan for displacing heat is leaving the door open youre gonna have a rough go of it using multiple 1000 watters. Look around at some peoples grows on here for ideas,but yeah youll need ac more than likely. Unless the air outside is lower than 70 at night and you can move a lot of it through your room.

1st response: can do 8x8 or bigger plus a 600 smell is literally 0 issue I live just slightly west of bum fuck egypt in ohio bout ten miles off the lake

Both, its a hundred and two year old house the electritian who could tell what I was up to (solid guy not worried, wasnt his first time getting an op up to specs) told me itd be cool after he replaced my breaker boxs, but some outlets are short and dont work, would you be concerned running 2600 plus fans dehumidifier and ac on a electric system that seems janky but was approved?

Then again 8x8 is four 4x4's in a square is it not?

4 1000w in a 8x8 area in a square will require in my opinion an 8" vortex fan ducted with a y joint to the two lines of two hoods. U will also need passive intake from a cool air source or a AC unit (inside grow room, but u will still need fresh air flow). Put 1 carbon filter per string of lights at the opposite end of the room from your air intake, using the 8" fan to pull air from the grow room through the filters over the lights and out of the room. This will remove the heat and filter the air, but this method requires u to be bringing in cool air, or air conditioning inside the grow room and only running the exhaust when the lights build up too much heat, which also brings in fresh air.

I would be concerned, yes. Don't become the next news article about a grow room fire.

At 120 volt total watts would be 2400 at 20 amps.

Or simply find adequate lighting that will not pose such a heat issue.. how much of that 100sqft room is being taking up by Plants... you will need proper spacing and that is most important for proper canopy penetration. as for 1000w it seems to be first choice amongst people.. i would simply do some more research and maybe stick some garage shop lights in your area for a few days to test heat and humidity issues thats if you own any... It will at least show you what you may need before going out and spending thousands on equipment. and always use whats already available to you with your home ventilation if you can do it right.. just my thoughts
