Well its been awhile since I stopped posting on rollitup due to me just being too busy with other things but I missed it and I am back. Let's try this again.
Since I last posted about 2 years ago, I have continued to grow different strains in search of something special and I have found a couple strains from Ripper Seeds that have impressed the hell out of me. Zombie Kush and Fuel OG are both great strains and different enough from each other to give me some variety in my daily smoking.
The Zombie Kush is a hybrid indica/sativa and one of the most flavorful strains I have ever tried, it is a real terpene monster. It has a sort of floral/perfumey/kushy taste. Everyone I smoke it with usually comment on the taste immediately after the first toke. It's a real crowd pleaser. Zombie is a shorter plant that produces the densest buds I have ever grown....rock hard trichome covered purple nugs, it's an all around winner. The only downfall to this strain is potential for bud rot from the density of the buds but this is easily avoided with good air circulation and venting, especially when the lights are off. Great strain but I do prefer this one in the late afternoon and evening as it can make you a little sleepy if you smoke it all day long.
The Fuel OG is also pretty tasty with the dominant flavors being evergreens and diesel fuel. Because it's mostly sativa, you can smoke this one all day long and I do, it's amazing and has very little burn out. However because it is a sativa, the stretch will at least double what the plant size was at the flip to 12/12. I love trimming this one, nice hard buds with very few leaves.
This grow I am going to grow four plants 2x Zombie and 2x Fuel OG. This keeps the grow small enough for the wife to look after when I go away for work but big enough to keep me permanently in good weed. Also 4 plants is the legal limit in Canada......not that I care about that but my wife does as she is a bank manager and cannot risk getting busted since she requires security clearances done on her regularly.
I am using a 4x4 tent. I hate this thing...a screen door has fewer light leaks than this thing does but I'll be building a proper grow room very soon, hopefully. I ended up covering all the seams with tuc-tape and then wrapped the entire tent in a double layer of black plastic garbage bags and then put a layer of blankets over that. It looks pretty ridiculous but works for the time being.
The lighting will be a 125w clf for the seedling stage followed by a 1000w mh for veg + first week or so of flower and a 1000w Hortilux Hps for remaining weeks of flower. The hood is air cooled with air from my carbon filter and exits outside.
Plants will be in 5 gallon air bags with Pro-mix HP and lots of perlite will be added to that. I like to water every two days in veg and early flower so I need good drainage. When I get later into flower to spread out my watering to every third day and dry out the roots a bit as I find this helps with trichome and terpene production.
Temps will be kept at 80-85f for veg and 65-70f for flower. I am pretty anal about my temps as my top priority is terpene preservation and since terpenes are basically volatile gasses, they can start to rapidly evaporate at ~72f and higher so temps under 70f are a must in my grow room.
The food is Mega Crop single part dry cannabis food with tap water and ph adjusted if needed. I know tap water is not ideal but it is very low ppm and the plants don't seem to mind it. I do have plans to get an R/O machine but that will come when I build the new grow room in the future. The Mega Crop is a food I won in a contest a few years ago here on rollitup. I was skeptical about it at first but this stuff works very well and is super easy to use...it's one part. I always over water by about 20-30% as I feel this helps flush out older unused salts that might build up around the roots. Also I only feed every second watering. I find this helps the weed out a lot in taste and burn-ability. I also flush for 7-10 days and use Advanced Nutrients Flawless Finish on the first day of flushing and always get a white ash.
And that's my routine for this grow in a nut-shell.
Comments are more than welcome but arguments are not.
