Lets get dirty

so my first run i averaged 28+oz per light at 1150 watts

second run i averaged 27 oz per light at 1000 watts

this next batch at 4 weeks i think might beat both the previous runs maybe getting close to the 2lbs per light mark cuz they look pretty fat at 4 weeks and they've had an almost flawless run with no issues so far

i added the junction box and power cord to my cob fixtures which looks real nice and much easier to deal with... im considering adding a toggle switch to the box to power it on and off

theres some pics of the new sprouts from the recent crosses...looking healthy in the 6" pots
along with some rooted fresh clones i just put into soil that look a little rough but they'll bounce back

theres a few large plants in veg
1 querkle
2 lemon kush
1 dream lotus
1 og ush #18

those are basically moms i might end up throwing away or maybe put into flower not sure yet on timing, i got more plants in veg than i will ever use and will end up throwing some away
the growth under the cobs fucking rocks,,... the moms are clearly less strectchy with better node spacing under the cobs and the fan leaves double the size...really really happy with what @CobKits has done for me putting these light packages together

then i also have the pics of the lemon kush in flower at 4 weeks looking real nice

Looking awesome bro, guess i might need to look into the cobs, you think you will eventually replace your HPS with them?

Amazing how much my clones have grown under that LED in just 6 days here are pics 6 days apart

not sure yet

for now in veg the literally kick the shit out of these old T5 fixtures
its crazy the difference even at 1/3 power consumption the cobbs kill the T5

but im not sure about bloom yet
eventually im going to do a side by side and see how it compares

i might just add some cobbs to my flower space and dial down the hps and split the difference

if i grew in s small space or in a tent i would absolutely be using the cob lights but luckily i have plenty of ceiling height

either way itll be a slow process before i can afford to build any more cobs

plus... i need the heat the hps throw during the winter months... they help heat my house lol

the veg space is already running cooler so the fan cycles on and off less so the humidity is higher than before when i was running more watts using the T5 which created more heat but also lowered the humidity

radiant floor heating that's warmed by a huge fucking grow space... only in my dreams lol

so I did some slurry test for NPK and the results where informative

I tested

1) the pots that just recycled 2 weeks ago and are cooking

2) the pots that are in week 4 of bloom

3) pots that are finished but yet to be recycled


so let start with
1) pots that just recycled and cooking

the N was surplused
the P adequate
the K adequate

im not going to feed to much into the N being high because I watered the cooking pots in with fish emulsion and im sure that's where the extra N is from
I need to get some more K in the mix for sure and that will be the theme for all 3 tests results


2) the pots that are 4 weeks into flower
the N surplus
the P adequate
the K adequate/slightly depleted.... would like to see it higher

what I take from this is I need to top dress with some guano to boost my P for the remaining amount of bloom.....
at the start of bloom I top dressed with high N guano and alfalfa, likelihood I could have voided the high N guano so I will omit that in the future
again im very low on K and the plants are showing it in the lower leaves... possibly top dress with more kelp meal at the start of bloom to boost K

3) pots that are finished but yet to be recycled

the N surplus
the P sufficient
the K depleted severly

so again I need to lay off the high N guano at the start of bloom and I shouldn't have watered with fish emulsion and maybe stick with hydrolyzed fish instead



over all I need to get the K way up


things Ive done to correct, any pointers would be appreciated to let me know im on the right track with my process

1)I added or adding 3/4 cup per cubic ft of greensand to help get some K in the mix down the road
2) dumping the fish meal in my mix and switching to feather meal and adding a little bone meal for some extra P

previous mix (1.5 cups per cubic ft)
2 parts kelp
1part alfalfa
1part crab
1part neem
1/2 part fish meal
plus
1 cup gypsum per cubic ft

new mix after adjustments (1.5 cups per cubic ft)
2 part kelp
1part alfalfa
1part neem
1 part feather meal
1/2 part bone meal
plus
1 cup gypsum per cubic ft



ive also added a small amount of pine bark to my soils to help with aeration and im cutting my compost down to roughly 20% total mix

I also added a good sum of biochar

im looking into my options to increase K
im a little confused over the difference between potash and water soluble potassium sulfate and how it affects biology when cooked into the soil and im trying to get my head wrapped around my K options

I ended up watering all my pots in with a mix of mono potassium phosphate and potassium sulfate with a small amount of Epsom salt at what was a total EC 1.0 roughly
with most of that being K at 250ppm

so for now that's how im getting my K but id like to figure out how to get it cooked into the soil at higher amounts from the start and not need to constantly watering it in and chasing it so any pointers on that would be appreciated

the bottom is the post that I have cooking at the moment

I didn't mention the ph tests

but they all came back good

6.0 to 6.5 range .. a little low but im good as long as im above 6 im happy

ive got low expectations from the cali

the girls from the pack where good yielders with nice chunky nugs so we shall see

finally got around to getting my EWC

I ended up not feeding them a while and they got real hungry
then I put fresh fruit scraps on one side of the bin and a couple days later all the worms where on one side

took all the castings from the empty side then added some peat and took the top layer off with the fruit cuttings and moved it over on top of the peat

waited another 2 days and cleaned out the other side

it was actually real easy and much simpler than I was making it out o be in my head

all together I ended up with about 15 gallons of vermicompost from one 30 gallon tote container and I started in the early spring

eventually im going to double that by adding another container maybe even two


no that trash cans not full ( I wish) its just the lid turned over sitting on top lol

these are the 4 pots with the diy seed at 12 days into 12/12

most of them are lemon og (fem) x satori f2 (male)

much broader leafed than the lemon og..more like the satori genetics in structure with thick stalked stalks
