Let's depend on government ....

there are some folks here who seem to be missing the point entirely. THE GOVERNMENT IS NOT YOUR SAVIOR!!! depending on government agencies to feed the poor, to heal the sick and to defend you in times of need is to give up your independence and lay aside any semblance of personal responsibility. this is not a matter of republican versus democrat or conservative versus liberal, it is the nature of bureaucracy to be inefficient and indifferent.
True that, my friend. We all-Republican, Democrat, or Independent- need to realize that the government is not here to help you. The government is against you.

you're all welcome to join me here under the ice. it's a bit chilly, but it's still better than tithing an outrageous percentage to the first church of barack.

hell, i'll even make room for those misguided souls who vote for the son of a bitch. i figure that the lesson learned from that mistake might educate them enough to qualify them for some menial task.
Frankly, I think the misguided son of a bitch is a huge target. I hope nothing happens to him, but I bet another "lone gunman" goes after him.

Not to knock anyone, this is just another look from the outside.

U.S.A. The single richest nation in all the world, the all mighty, the merciful. Hmmmm. Ever wonder why other countries such as England and France have free health care for their citizens, and even foreigners? Living subsidies for working families such as child care, free COLLEGE education, even transportation?

Those countries governments are afraid of their own people, believe it or not. The people are not afraid of their governments. Why you ask?

The last time France tried to restructure its economy, its citizens rebelled. Voraciously from what I've read. Public offices and buildings were burnt down, parades of protesters, angry ones, marched up and down the street for weeks.Taxes weren't paid, people didn't go to work and so on. The reigning government in France had no choice but to do what the people TOLD them to do, they were afraid. NOT the other way around. England, in its infinite wisdom I suppose, took its lead from France and set in motion its free public health system, and other amenities.

Do you think we, as North Americans, have the balls to TELL our own governments what we want, or else? It would take about one day for us to get what we wanted. Sure, there are tons of state troopers, local and highway police, Mounties, FBI, CIA, ATF and whatever other kind of law enforcement employees out there that can scare us. But, do you really think that if every factory worker, dough nut shop employee, gas station attendant, student, doctors, lawyers, public servants ( there might even be a few law enforcement agents out there that would agree with this cause,) and so forth were to march to the front steps of every court house, parliament building, white house and any other public office you can think of, would they really be able to stop it? I don't think so. We are the people, we know what we need. They need to be told what we need, or else.

Someday, lol

where is the incentive to excel or to even attain mediocrity? even though we have been trapped in the role of babysitter to the world, the us is still a center of innovation and entrepreneurism. while many nations are stagnant, the us is still a force for growth despite the billions drained away in humanitarian and relief efforts around the world. while most nations are instituting tighter and tighter controls on their people, we in the us still enjoy a modicum of freedom simply because there is still a bit of the philosophy of self-determination remaining in our society. people come from all over the world to study in our universities and to avail themselves of our medical facilities because they are supported by the fees they charge and can afford to excel. millions would rather live in exile here than remain in their homeland because here they are allowed to excel.

it surely isn't our government that allows the us to remain a leader, but the underlying philosophy of its people that it is better to work for success than to have mediocrity handed to you.

We are the people, we know what we need. They need to be told what we need, or else.
welcome to the 21st century and the single greatest public relations firm in recorded history, the us government. we have been duped into believing that we need the government's constant attention. the philosophy of self-dependence brought here by immigrants from all over the world has been diluted by the indolence and greed of the few who have been led to believe that the american dream is easily attained. sloth has been redefined and is now considered the result of inequity, luxury is now considered the right of everyone.

we know what we want, but do we really know what we need anymore?

Again you spew hatred for the people of this great nation. Why don't the people deserve health care in the richest nation on earth? Why, just tell me why. Could it be that there is too much money to be made in the health care "Business"? Just the words business and health care seem to be oxymorons.

Spewing hatred??...............People don't deserve health care?? Because there is too much money in health care, people don't deserve it?? Business and health care seem to be oxymorons??:mrgreen: You, MedMao, are utterly absurd in your frivolity!! How about business and food service?? People got to eat, so why are people allowed to make a dime based on the inevitable hunger of their fellow human beings. After all, hunger, once achieved, is ever consuming?? Is this too a great travesty?? Business and Marijuana is surely an oxymoron!! To expect people to pay for a plant?? Sheer lunacy!:mrgreen:

oh, you're such a silly little man. i extol the virtues of the american people and you call it hatred, the american people excel and you berate them for their success, billions are given by the american people to the needy all around the world and all you can say is that it isn't enough. is your life such a failure that you would begrudge those who work for a living what little slice of heaven they can manage before your socialist heroes steal the rest away? with foolish phrases like "there should be no rich" you belie your envy of anyone who might have a little more than you. anyone who might disagree with you is immediately labeled a fascist or worse and your idea of progress is for everyone to grovel in the muck.

in case you haven't noticed, life is a crap shoot, but you seem to believe there should be some sort of guarantee. is the world so frightening to you that you need the safety net of big brother to gather enough courage to leave your bed? your ineffectual attempts at nihilism have become tiresome and your constant repetition of cliche is as hollow as the rest of your fellows in the nouveau-left.

What a load of crap. You speak as though you have some special insight into the human psyche, bullshit. Everyone that I know or ever knew or hung out with worked for a living, you know where you get up every morning and go to a place of employment so you can make the duckets to survive. Don't lay that lazy no good for nothing crap on me pal, I've worked from the time I left home @15 untill. I retired from the teamsters @ 62. No-one ever gave me a fucking dime and I've owned 7 houses and some rental condos. I've had stock accounts, bank accounts, rental income, owned three businesses, driven half a dozen new cars or trucks, owned boats, off road vehicles, motorcycles, hot-rods and more crap than I care to remember, all bought with the fruits of my labor. So stuff your holier than thou bullshit deep up into your ass.

you've really have to stop pulling the "poor people want handouts" card. There are plenty of extremely wealthy people who believe in things like universal healthcare and u.s. aid to foreign governments. They also believe in higher taxes for the wealthy. One of these people is billionaire Warren Buffet, who came out vocally against the Bush tax cuts for the wealthy when he realized his own secretary payed a higher percentage of her check in taxes. This isn't about poor people wanting a handout, its about equality, and making civilization as equal as possible. You said it yourself, life is a crapshoot, and those who are fortunate enough to make it with success, maybe even great success, should be willing to share a small portion of that with those who suffer from great misfortune, and even the greatest minds will tell you that simple shit-ass bad luck does exist.

If Warren Buffet thinks he should pay more in taxes, he should be able to do so. After all, this is a free country, right? :blsmoke:

Med ...

By your own words, it sounds like you've been "successful" by most standards. Way above "middle class" anyway. Here's a question for you ... Why is it that so many liberals like yourself, having created a good life for yourself, find it so compelling and attractive to use the tax gun of government to stifle others from achieving greatness?

Dear medicineman, the real reason for the enormous health care costs in America is because of the insurance companies. Ask yourself, what other industry is allowed to have a price tier structure like medical insurance? Most health care items are fungible. A normal child birth has the same issues, regardless where it occurs. Same for appendectomies and treatment for influenza. However, costs are shifted to the small buyers. Big buyers (like large companies, government agencies, and universities) get huge price breaks.

So tell me, would it be fair for a 20-something, working at At&T to pay $1.85 a gallon for gasoline, and a semi-retired guy like you to pay $6.25? That is what is happening with health care in America today. Now, I may need a gall-bladder removal soon. Can I count on you med, to chip in $4000?
