legitimacy of strains in breeder crosses

I don't want to call anyone a liar or cause arguments but I'm just curious. How do breeders say they have strains like gelato, lemon tree, etc in their crosses but if you were to ask the creator of the strain they will say something like I haven't given it out to anyone. Does that mean the creator is lying because they don't want to admit to the public someone is using the genetics they made or are the breeders getting a different pheno of the strain from bagseed or using a different version of the strain which might be good still but isn't the clone only pheno they say it is. I like to think that breeders trade with each other and the cuts just end up with whoever knows somebody with it but then I see posts on social media claiming that they kept it to themselves. Anyone have opinions or more information about this?

Those cuts are widely available.
I was just giving examples of times where I seen the cut holder say he didn't release it, yet other people said they had it and released crosses of it. I'm sure they weren't always widely available. The apple fritter is another good example that's more current. There's always the next new hype strains and the cycle of this will always repeat. But yeah you're right about the garden tenders taking cuts. Crane city claimed that's how they got sherbinski's gelato.

1) People usually have a disgruntled "Ex Worker who steal cut/ Take snip or two .
[Connected ] Smarties got out ****
And I think Dandango1 use to be there****

2) The next way is two partners that went separate ways.

3) People find a seed in there bud from a batch that wasn't grown the best and had seed in the bud.

All of these breeders "steal" from each other constantly-including some of the most popular ones on this site. What can you do, you can't patent or copyright a strain, so you end up with the current situation that we have now-which is breeders pumping out new "strains" that have hardly been worked at all. They've encouraged this FOTM mentality partly because of all the "theft" of genetics that is going on. Few breeders stick with a strain and continue working the line, rejuvenating it when necessary, and maintaining the health, quality, and potency of the line long term. The new FOTM strains that are popular right now aren't any better than the top strains/cuts 20+ years ago. Examples: Blueberry, GDP, Grape Ape, Strawberry Cough-these strains are the basis for countless popular strains today and I've yet to smoke a single one that was better than the original-it's all about marketing and $$$. Very few of these new breeders actually go back to the "source material" aka, the landraces, and do the hard work of pheno-hunting and crossing/back crossing, to create a new strain that is truly their own-to create a new FOTM just cross two old FOTM and so on and so on.

Your long winded answer NEVER answered the question how do cuts get out .

Answer the question people ask. "
How do cuts get out."
Or people get stuff.

You must be a new forum member say 2019-2021..

You won't find a simple solution to this complex problem because every story about genetics spreading falls under different circumstances and intentions within the individuals.

I'll add breeders do pass around cuts to people assuming they are a closed loop. It is my assumption that when someone says "I never gave it to anybody", it could mean they never gave it to anybody outside their inner circle of trusted friends. But that doesn't necessarily mean one of those people in their circle didn't gift or sell it to another random person on the down low. If the person in the close circle of friends never gave hint of this to the breeder/originator, the breeder would call out anyone outside the circle as a liar who claims to have it. I'm not hinting at anyone in particular here, just saying this is totally within the realm of possibility.

Be more specific. Which cut supposedly never got out? Let's investigate those specific claims, and not a broad sweeping blanket statement.
I agree with you, but there are only so many ways it can really get out.

It's the risk vs reward, and most big cuts are out at this point. Goto the cannarado thread and you will see all the cuts he works with.

Now there are some other breeders whom are questionable . What did you hear about them or your personal experiences?

I think there r also plenty of "breeders" who either knowingly pass off seeds knowing they have fake cuts or who just buy cuts from "trusted" sources. Some of those trusted sources are well known in the industry while others are just putting faith (often too much to be charging as much as they usually ) that what they buy off joe schmoe or from the nursery is what it's labeled as.

I admit I feel like I don't know whats being talked about lol like maybe this hypothetical has recently taken place or something or that we are talking about a specific person or event... And just like in middle school... I'm so lame idk what everyone else is talking about :dunce::eyesmoke:

Let's be real for a sec.. Let's say that you are a garden worker who gets paid $20/hr to tend crops. Perhaps you are tending to an elite clone such as Lumpy's Fritter. Let's say someone offers you $10k for a couple cuts of the elite mother, because they know they can sell 20 cuts of it for $1k each tomorrow. What did you do, take a couple snips for a quick $10k, or nah?

Personally if I was really trying to keep something tight I wouldn't let anyone near it that would do anything but laugh at the "quick $10k". But if u have a cut that can command those kind of prices but u try to cheap out and not compensate the team you entrust to keep things locked down, I suppose in some ways you would almost have it coming?

Who's gonna laugh at 10k though?

My buddy was paying a dui lawyer over 200 bucks an hour and while they were walking to the court house that cheap mofo stop to pick up a penny.

Just cuz you got money doesnt mean you gonna snub 10k.

Integrity is everything in the industry that I am. I just know the way that cuts get out onto the market that I had listed.
