I know I would make a terrible politician. I don't like to lie. Makes my spine itchy...
I have only heard one person, an older woman and mother of a candidate, say anything negative about MMJ. She said she thinks that liberal votes could be lost by "pushing the legalization issue". Not that she doesn't agree with legalization (it seems all libs do). But she's afraid of the backlash that puting this issue on the forefront will cause the party.
I disagree. Fuck the backlash. THIS is what is important for getting uninterested people excited. Real change.
Others I have talked to, are also here because of MMJ. I talked to a man who's young son is in prison for marijuana charges. He told me some pretty interesting things about wait-times in holding before getting a trial and the problems with bail.
Today I had to focus a lot on getting to know my northern president candidates.
Thunder Bay has a green MP, which has been a funny issue here. Not a lot of people even knew we were Green. Probably a few didnt even know where Thunder Bay was - hahah.
There also seems to be a general consences that Green Party ideals are very close to the Liberals, and we could work together. Sounds like a pipe-dream. But who knows?
Today was informative, and tomorrow I'm really looking forward to the Aboriginal people's liberal commission and the Ontario women's liberal commission.
Basically (from what u can gather) people in the liberal party want votes. They want members, new ones like myself, to join the cause.
I agree, that many of the speakers and candidates for varying roles within the party - seem passionate and charismatic. But I have yet to see one person speak directly about medical marijuana while under the public eye.
I'm working on it!!!
Haha - looking back - seems like phase 1 (unintentionally) was to get most people I met high.
Mission accomplished!
