Legal medical marijuana in Florida at last!!!

Listen up all Florida residents! There is a public initiative to legalize medical marijuana in Florida circulating. The law firm Morgan and Morgan is spending $2,000,000.00 of their own money on ads to gather enough signatures to force the Florida legislature to vote on a bill to legalize the use of marijuana for medicinal purposes. They need 200,000 registered Florida voters to sign the petition. You may have heard their ads on your local radio station. We may never get this kind of help from a well known, legitimate law firm again, so it is imperative we take this opportunity to do this for the needy and for ourselves as growers. This can be the day that what we all have dreamed of becomes reality! The day when those in need of the medical benefits that marijuana provides can finally receive relief, the day we can legally make a recession proof living doing what we all love! They are not getting nearly enough response as yet, so we must rise to the occasion. Do you want to tell your sickly relatives and friends that you let this opportunity go by because you were too apathetic? Come on, we have been given a free pass with the Feds, all that remains is the state level. I repeat, don't let this opportunity go to waste! Go to http://www.unitedforcare.org/ and download the petition, fill it out, and mail it in! You must be a registered Florida state voter to participate.

This would be fuckin great because I would love to move to FL and there is no legal mmj haven in the south. However, I don't think your message is going to reach anyone here, spread the word on facebook or something too.

I saw it here first. But I can't say that I'm such a news hound that that is unusual. My name (and friends' names) will be on the petition.

I copied the OP and sent it to Miami Beach Mayoral Candidate Steve Berke ( http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NdIYVWA0dr0 ) and this is what he had to say about it. "Thanks for forwarding that to me. I know all about the Florida medical marijuana initiative...unfortunately, it's less about legalizing medical marijuana and more about John Morgan trying to get his friend Charlie Crist (who works at his law firm) elected as Governor. Charlie Crist always voted against marijuana initiatives, and even voted to make the penalties even harsher, so I'm very skeptical about this entire initiative. " I've been working with Steve on some things for a few months now and he knows his shit, so I'd put a lot of weight behind his words. Caveat Emptor.

Oh snap, politics as usual.

Why would a law firm spend $2 mill on something that would make their criminal defense department bring in less money? I don't get that at all. SunJ has the scoop, makes sense if it's a bid for governor.

I worked for 2 law firms and they bring in a TON of money from rich kids that get caught with weed in non-legal states. Mommy and Daddy can't have their little angel's reputation tarnished because they need to get into an ivy league college, and then run for city council or some shit. If you can pay enough, you can have everything go away. Even here in Colorado they make a ton of money on various weed offenses. It's sad, all that should go away with full on legalization and taxing it like liquor. The criminal defense guys always had the best cars and most expensive suits. Well, except for maybe the corporate lawyers, and real estate lawyers. Shit, never mind, they all make way too much. But ironically lawyers have a high suicide rate, so it's all good... j/k

I think you'll find criminal defense lawyers make less than tort lawyers. Sense Crist is NOT running for Governor, Berke's claim is misdirection, at best. I can't believe you are advocating non-support for legalized marijuana.

Glad that you can't believe it because I am not! I'm all for the legalization of marijuana!! "...I'm very skeptical about this entire initiative..." is what was said. I'm on your side here, just passing along some information. Since it's close to election time, I know Steve is in full on politician mode. He's taking this run a lot more serious than his previous run, but his goal of legalizing weed remains unchanged. As does mine. Shit, how hypocritical could I be? Planning to be a producer/processor under I-502 and against legalization? I don't think so!

Morgan only does civil law. No criminal.

Hey, I reached you didn't I? Facebook spies on you.
Yea, well the target audience for this thread is growers in FL that visit these forums and do more than just dick around in the general and noobie sections. You may have reached me, but I can't even vote in FL. Pretty niche market if you want signatures but I guess even one extra sig would be worthwhile.

Jon Morgan watched his father die from cancer. He believes MMJ could have alleviated his pain and prolonged his life. There are things more important than money.

Morgan is spending $2 million of his own money advertising. While that doesn't buy much TV time, it does get a fair amount of radio time. If you click on the link in my sig, you can join his group and contribute to buy advertising time.

So far .... 1.1 million signatures have been collected by United For Care, way more than is needed. The court has not ruled yet on the language of the new bill, that should be sometime this month.I've done my part, sent in my sig, collected some and donated some bucks.

Whats next? Well,I am counting on the opposition to do some of their dirty tricks,i.e. disinfo, slander, blackmail, etc.,you know, the usual politics here in fla.,but I really do think the tide is turning in our favor because as I have observed from living here most of my life,is that when the old, retired folks that make up the majority of the voters here want something,it happens. And as the baby boomers are now in that age group, most of them are totally for it and I fully expect the law to pass. I would rather see complete legalization, but this looks like the reality of the situation here. MMJ first, decimalization next, then legalization sometime down the road.

We make our living growing organic fruit and vegetables on about 22 acres here in Gilchrist county. Our produce is being prescribed by oncologist's to their cancer patients and we see the growing of MMJ as the next logical step to take to further our goal of producing the best, healthiest produce possible. From my point of view,MMJ needs to be produced only by holistic, organic methods and no one can do that better than the members of the Florida Organic Growers,F.O.G. We,F.O.G., will be going to the legislature to make the case when the time is right and will be needing your support in this so I will be asking for input from folks across the world to take with us to the legislature.
Presently, some MMJ comes with a disclaimer stating "May contain other substances".Why the hell would you give a cancer patient something containing known cancer causing ingredients? Reasons like this is what I'm looking for.
We will need as much "ammo" as possible,so if you can drop me a note in support I sure would appreciate it.
