LED vs HPS

This hid room only has 6 lights

Average between 15-18 and maxed out once at 24 lbs (tried several times sense and haven’t been able to do it, didn’t look any fuller buds were just dense to the bottom and was a mono crop.) the lights are covering a 6x5 area each. I’d do more but only have one mini split in that room atm. And so far it’s worked great the way it is.

The led rooms I can’t get an accurate weight off of as I have been dealing with some issues, so recently started over genetic wise. But several varieties weren’t sick and I was able to get an idea of weight and quality out of those parts of the room. There are more lights in this room. I still have 2 de hps up front. I can set the par, humidity, temperature, c02 pretty much anywhere I want in this room.

I haven’t given up Im still trying to dial it in, but so far the results I’m getting def weren’t worth the 10k price tag. I see potentional for more weight but it’s 4 more lights in the same space, would be more weight if out 4 more de hps in the other room too.

While Im an HID guy myself since they came out in 1977.

The HGL Scorpion Diablo looks to be the most powerful LED right now. Especially for the watts its pulling.

Its using the new Samsung LM310H EVO Diodes. Theyve only been out for 3 months.

The Scorpion puts out a whopping 2130umol, and consumes 650w. Its got a 3.2 efficiency rating.

My 1150w DE Gavita puts out 2100umol.

The Gavita 1930e puts out 1930umol, and is 780 watts. It has a 2.5 efficiency rating vs 3.2 for the HLG.

HLG is $1400.

I predict a whole lotta companies are going to start using these new LM310H EVO chips very soon.
HLG is overrated their fixtures look cheap to me. If I'm spending $1,400 that light better do more than save me a few bucks on my power bill.

So if I understand correctly you were required to run more LED fixtures to get the same coverage and performance as the 1000w DE HPS?

Well the whole idea was to get way more weight, out of the same size space. I can’t say for sure what they would do on the same spacing I was using. I can say they put out better numbers on the par meter. Then the de hps.

I am still trying to figure out the weight thing, but so far I’m not impressed enough to want to buy any more leds and if quality doesn’t get better I’ll be switching them out.

Hopefully you get good results but use a careful eye to look at the buds from the HPS vs LED once dried & trimmed, LED buds tend to be darker in color imo and have that compact small structure. Just not a big fan personally. Power Savings are cool n all but I'd be really pissed if I spent thousands of dollars on replacement lights and then end up worse off when I coulda just put that cash on my power bill and kept running 1000w DE HPS.

The only true 1:1 replacement for 1000w HPS that I have seen in LEDs so far that is name brand is the Gavita 1930e and that burns 800 watts.. Unless your at huge scale it's questionable how much your saving when it comes to yield per watt.. I know there are people who have ran stuff like "big bud" or GG4 under 720 watt LEDs and gotten ~2 lbs but other than that its' just bro's at the grow store saying they got 4 pounds off a 720 watt LED..

HPS for bloom I never will change.
That's good advise

If it was 2016

GML just pulled down a whole room of HLG lights with only a few runs on them.
That's most likely because GML didn't buy those lights from HLG in the first place, they were loaned or leased to him, and when GLM decided to fuck HLG over and start his own LED company with fixtured based on HLG's design (Tarantula), HLG wanted their lights back. I could be wrong, but at the end of the day GML's new Tarantula light is a copy of the Scorpion, the only difference is two more LED panels.

I was watching a live and he said he had em sold already. Aren’t GML new lights bar style or maybe a wide bar style like photo bio. Still didn’t think they were a QB fixture.

Either way I’ve watched HLG claim for years that every light they produce is the new 1000 w hps killer starting with their 480 watt 550.

I also don’t know why any lights released lately don’t have controller ports, maybe the new ones do but it should have been standard who doesn’t use a controller?

These are the two styles they have. It's hard to say it's not a rip off of the design, but so is every other grow light sooo.

I also kind of don't care since their prices are more reasonable in Canadian than HLG. So GML leaves and HLG closes the Canadian site and DGAF about us.86C3596F-4560-4ACB-8701-A1BF25D3780E.jpeg8DD3D1D8-6E0A-4E7E-837A-63DA49F7EBE2.png

Why would it be colder during lights off with LEDs vs HPS? The lights are off.
LED dont put off much IR compared to 1000w HPS. With 1000w DE HPS if I put the back of my palm on my concrete floors in -10 °F winter outside in a basement the floor is warm. If I'm running LEDs the floor stays ice cold.. There is way less heat from LEDs to warm the room in the first place, then once the little heat provided by them fades the room drops in temps much more dramatically.

I don't care about the fancy numbers when I see plants do better under an LED I'll invest until then its all just gizmo gadget BRO ITS GOT 21000 UMOL PER SECOND BRAH 2.675 UMOL per second efficiency DUDE. Cool don't care. Prove its better and worth spending $1,400 on each fixture when you can spend $250 on a 1000w DE complete plug & play fixture that will easily yield 3 pounds per/light without question.

Would you consider going every other fixture?

So the LEDs would get the DE crossover lighting right?
They wouldn't get cross over lighting. I've grown using a T5 then an LED next to it and the side of the plants getting T5 + LED we're stressed out big time. I feel like one or the other. I want to keep quality good first and foremost but also have good yields. Not sure but wouldn't crossing different spectrums mess up the performance of the intended spectrum of the lights in general?

I don't know. I was hoping the cross over lighting from the DE's would be a pluss to the leds .
I've experimented with LED supplementation it seems like the plants do best under consistent lighting spectrum and source. I've had some strains that take a lot of adjustment time between T5, LED, HPS etc. I feel like it would just stress them out or throw them off but you never know it could be killer if done right..

If its worse, its user error

And ill.have things to think about. Sadly theirs 7
