I used to think this too but my LED run was so impressive, better quality more terpenes, just better all around than buds I have grown under HID.

1)LED lights cost more money upfront, but only use about half the electricity that other lights use for the same amount of lumens.
2)All the power is going to create light only in the spectrum helpful to plants.
3)They also remain relatively cool, saving on your money on cooling costs.
4)The heat reduction, when compared with HPS/MH bulbs substantially, reduces the risk of fire.
5)They also outlast other lights by years saving you from having to replace the bulbs annually.
6)LED lights do not need ballasts. You just plug them directly into the electrical socket.
If you follow the guidelines for the recommended coverage area, we are confident that LED light results will impress you, especially in enclosed spaces.

They do have drivers that do also fail.
Debatable, the surfaces of LED's are known to react with chemicals in the air, reducing light transmission and causing them to loose output. Nobody talks of this.
Well maybe 65 or 70% of the energy, not half.

Just hit the 1.8-2 gpw last grow. 600g plants left n right.

No, half now with quality leds. Oh wait, you're using Cobs. My bad.
And when running quality fixtures you'll have a .99 % PF (power factor) .Check your lights n ballast with a decent multimeter for the PF.
Or pay that Phantom Electricity due to inefficient components.

My led said will have uv +ir , from the manufacturer speak, will add 1 or 2uv 410nm diodes and several ir 730 on the board.

It's a Mitsubishi light tower, diesel powered. Saw it on CL a couple weeks ago while looking for something else. Imagine having it craned down like the 2nd photo w your garden right under it LOL! Would just have to somehow vent it outside, or stick the shaft out a window ha.

I have been in commercial grows of both and can you tell you they’re both uncomfortable to work under but methods need to be modified to work under those HPS lights day in and day out.
I’ve seen much better yields under LED’s as well. To assume gpw to be the same would be very generous towards the HPS.

Led is more and and more acceptable around my place, ppl like it, now i only use the led in my canopy and i love my sp250.

For anyone talking about power electric costs in a grow room with led, I think this really only pertains to small grows. I feel like most commercial situations would swap watt for watt and increase the amount of product rather than run less power. So if upfront costs are more and electric costs are the same, the benefit would be the speed of paying of the amount of initial capital spent on equipment, but it would probably still take longer to recover than hid.

You only need so much light for a given area. A watt for watt swap from HID to LED would produce too much light.

I would bet that is situationally dependent. Also, commercial you could add more space. There is still no reason to cut back on anything over producing more I would think. More money, same cost....
