LED lights

Ive been looking into the spectrum king led light for awhile. They did a comparison of 4-6 light manufacturers.

They have 2 different versions both 400w. A 60 degree reflector and a 90 degree. In there test comparison the 60 degree pulled 29ounces(1.8GPW) and the 90 degree did 27.8ounces(1.73GPW) while im looking they did 18.5ounces(.79GPW) on 600w HPS and 33ounces(.86GPW) on the 1000w hps.

Pros
1.8GPW, i wouldnt doubt 2GPW now as they have a 400w+ version.
Low heat
Probably no need for AC
Save hydro
Better for c02
made in USA
3 or 5 year warrenty
Should ROI in a reasonable time.

Cons
CAD 1600$+ per light.
Results above havent been proven besides there own tests (from what i can find)
Seen someone on youtube pull 1lb with bigger plants.

Il pull the trigger on atleast 1 or 2 when i can. Decide for yourself.

I would need to find a way to flip flop LEDs besides making my own power board with relays. I prefer manufacturer.

If they were good. Everyone would use them.
Being an electrician by trade and the fact that they have been around for years and getting better no doubt.
They're not quite there yet for the average person..

The leds they use suck. Period. For the amount of money they charge it should be made much better.

Give the led market a few months to catch up with the latest and finally good leds that are out. Until then save your pennies or build one yourself..

I've grown with better leds, xml2 versus their xbds, and further onto the new larger cob types. Their results are not replicable. Straight bullsh@t.

Check out COB style LED lighting; short for Chip On Board. These are extremely efficient depending on how many amps you drive them at, they have excellent spectrum characteristics and are substantially less expensive per umol emitted than older LED designs.

There are some threads here on RIU about them and growers who are building some pretty impressive fixtures with them.

I second this, every word.

What i like the about the spectrum kings led lamp is NO fans...lots of fins for cooling. Seems to me those little micro fans will fault a few years in . IMO no fans is a better plan. Might buy one to test sometime.

Looked I to the mars 2 series also. Problem is the company is hard to deal with when something goes wrong. Seems if you were to buy say 4 x 1600w they would all read a different wattage

Which ones are you using...I see they have a big 1600watt unit...that thing look pretty crazy...huge lumen's output....hmmm interesting lights.
I've been using 2 of their mars 2 (1200), 2 (400), and 2 of their 48x3 reflector series. Check out the multiple threads on 420magazine with Sara and the grow journals. Great customer service!

I agree I've seen the 1200s yield about 23oz pulling 570ish watts. Problem is, when a part goes they make you test it on your own with a volt meter, take a picture then get the faulty part sent to you. You will find a lot of that on 420 also. Proper warranty should be picture> proof of tracking of broken unit > receive tracking of new unit.

I haven't had any issues since I started using their lights 2 years ago and any problems I've seen arise on 420mag were quickly handled by Sara.

But will she send out a complete led unit to swap out for the faulty one? even if you take pics of the problem etc..??
nope, she will still send you the part to fit yourself.
which I will add, she does do quickly and efficiently, no argument there, customer service is good,. so far. lol time will tell.

That doesn't make much business sense shipping 40 lb lights back and forth when its a simple part replacement. Seems like a non issue to me.

40 lbs leds is about right, they are indeed like blocks of iron, jesting...or am I? & simple part replacement.....hmmmm. yeah if your that way inclined, many people don't even want to bother opening the box.
But im sure sara would sort things out tho if a grower was totally incapable of repairing it themselves.
Not as easy as you think tho, if one of those zener diodes goes, so does a whole section of leds = expected to solder in a new zener and led? how many people can do that then? especially with the zeners, theyre tiny. lol. and yeah, I do talk from experience, have stripped & repaired quite a few now as sara well knows. Even done a strip down journal of one repair to help people, cant obviously post the link here tho, am a guest after all. Forum rules an all that.
But they are not that hard to replace parts, if no soldering is needed, result if someone gets a whole faulty board to play with anyway, all those leds to remove for spares or to practice on.

Unfortunately that's how they deal with warranty. From what I see...ebay has a warranty, 420 mag has a warranty and directly from mars hydro all have different warranties(I believe) but I'm absolutely positive they only send the faulty part to you for you to install or send your entire light, have them work on it then fix it and send it back while going without a light. These are the only things that held me back from making a 24 light order.
