LED Lightning

I just puchased a grow cabinet with LED lighting. I've heard some people say that you need HID lighting to grow really high quality medical marijuana. I sure hope I didn't make a mistake getting the LED. Can I grow top quality medical marijuana using LED lighting? Please, someone, give me your opinion.

you can in small contained areas imo. dont tell me you made a mistake of buying a "plug and play grow". .. i did to many years ago.. just do a grow and see what happens.. if you dont get what you want.. look into hps .. i personally use leds for veg. but am looking to high dollar leds to replace 1000 watt hps.

I certainly have a small contained area with the LED lighting in my grow cabinet, but the message I think I'm getting from you is that I make a big mistake buying an expensive grow cabinet from Super Closet. If that is correct, can you please tell me why I made a mistake.

haha ya i did the same thing man.. gotta start somewhere... well for one its prolly to small to grow a decent sized fully budding plant... as mine was.... and you could have also built it for alot less... i know i paid 2800 for the "plug and play system i bought" ... but like i said you have to start somewhere and like you i dove straight in with money not an issue. ... i use my 2800 dollar cabinet now as nuet storage haha

yes you can get everything from lowes... the cabinet i bought was simply a metal cabinet with mylar and some fart fans installed...came with simply hydro setup and 2 small ufo leds...

look into grow tents...

imo for now, hps rules.. i am looking into buying the expensive leds and seeing if they can compare like others say they can.. i only use led to veg right now

If you get quality lled panels you can grow better quality and match or even beat hid yields.

Best led

Area 51
Hans bonsai hero
Apache tech
Vipar

China direct decent panels

Evergrow
Apollo from cidly
Bysen
E shine
LG led

Diy panels are great of you are willing to put in the work

There has been decent grows on here with multiple 50w led floodlights.

You can start reading here: https://www.rollitup.org/led-other-lighting/

I'm using LEDs, as well as many other users. There are tons of documented grows in that part of the forum if you want to look around. There's a link to mine in my signature line.

As far as DIY'ing a cabinet? I made mine for cheap, and used whiteboard for the interior wall. It cleans super easy, is already white, and appropriately reflective. I have <$1k in everything, including the mistakes and revamps. Half of that budget went into lighting, $140 into nutes.

People will speak ill of LEDs, but it's for a specific consumer. I doubt anybody on a hobbyist budget is about to ante up for LEDs to cover 1000sq.ft. HIDs have a purpose, and have grown good green for years. LED is just the new girl on the block, and she's gettin around.

My advice would be to avoid any prefabbed "grow box" and the sales pitch attached to it. Some grow stores offer "kits", but it's all off the shelf items. Usually those kits are reasonable, but never real high quality.

Thanks for all of your tips, what leds are you using and will they flower and produce well?

Grow tent from ledwholesalers.com or their amazon store they have the best deals on quality tents.

If you build a cab. You can cut a hole in the top at the shape of any light. Then the light can sit flushed with led fans outside the cab or if using hid the vent holes outside the cab. Like nugbuckets grow cab.

what about this light sounds to good to be true http://growace.com/grow-light/led-grow-lights/300-watt-advance-spectrum-max-dimmable-5w-chip-quad-band-led-grow-light.html also im looking at a gorilla grow tent does anyone have any comments on them are they worth the money?
That's probably around 180 true watts. Doesn't say anything about what type of leds or anything specific about the light. Definitely way over priced and mot worth it.

For $200 l less you can get an a51 160 watt with cree led (top of the line) 5w and 3w led with a great warranty.

Apache tech is coming out with new lights next month. Supposed to be first week of July. They use cree too. They are using some new secret leds.they won't say til they release the new lights. Price is supposed to be comparable to a51. Those 2 are probably the best led panels you can get.

Never used a goriila tent. Only use ledwholesalers tents. Because of $$$$. I like the ones I have used.

Soil I use pro mix then add

Kelp meal
Shrimp meal
Basalt rock dust
Neem meal
Compost
Worm castings

Spray with a compost tea and let cook /compost for 4 weeks. Then use.

wow you've made it pretty hard to pick a light ha, cant wait to see what apache comes out with cause their lights look legit, but a51 has a way better price so I think if apache can come close to their price point thad be the one to go with, any growers that have exp with these lights coments are welcome

I'm using the Area51 SGS-160, 120w Whites, 155w Whites + Reds(630nm). You can follow my grow by clicking the link in my sig. Sorry for a delayed response.

As far as what this light can do, others are a couple weeks ahead of me. They're in the dark now, but once the light is on again, it's Day 1 of Week 8, so I'll be adding the PK13/14 tonight. Quite a few people on RIU have SGS's now, and all of them seem to be doing quite well. Mine should finish out in 6-7wks.
