hello, i am thinking of starting a new grow with these new LED lightboards. they claim to give better results with only a fraction of the power useage. has anyone tried these lights? are they worth switching to? what kind of results did you get?
thanks, all info will be turned into knowledge

I like them, but they are not there yet. I am not willing to dish out a ton of money for lights that can't penetrate the canopy. The results so far are minumal. They have been shown beneficial as spplementary lights, but as of now HID is the best lighting for growth. Give LED's another 10 years and I am sure we will see some great things. As of now, spending 3 grand on lights that 500 dollars can do much better with HPS/MH, no thanks....

I have one of those boards and they are absolutely hopeless. I grew a seedling under one and it just stretched further and further even though I kept the board only maybe 1/2" above the top of the seedling. :wall:

My opinion is that they are rubbish! I wasted £40 inc P+P on one and am a little pissed off about it.

There are some very high spec LED lights out there, but they are real pricey. You will probably want one of the 100 watt super duper LED things to get good results.

I would go for a 6400K compact flourescent for veg and 2700k compact flourescent or a high pressure sodium for flower.

^^^^^ Yeah, also, if you get an HPS system, get a normal HPS bulb, plus a HPS-MH conversion bulb for later vegging. The CFL's work good for a little bit, but one they get a good root system going, the MH light is the way to go for sure!

Someone who's no longer here is using them for veg... they do work well, extremely so.... but they are still pricey and not all LED's are equal... plus its still a new technology...
