i hope these leds do get better, and cheaper of course, any thing that is good for the weed, is good in my book

i do find it a shame however how much hype/marketing lies that has been involved with these lights, perhaps more so when they first came out

when the first wave of these lights came out years ago the manufactures/grow shops were claiming 80-100w leds were equivalent to 400w HPS etc etc .. this was obviously not true in practice

i know since these original lights leds have improved a fair bit,
i have seen some nice pictures of plants folk have grown with these new leds with cree's and 3w leds in the panels etc

although i cant help thinking the original idea of saving power by giving the plants only the spectrum's of light they need seems to have been watered down/lost .. since some of these units feature white leds and uv leds too
also the power of these units is now equal to hps, with 600watt and 1200watt led units available its seems like the original idea or low power has been lost or is just simply not achievable with current technology

leds at the moment are not doing anything a hps or cfl cant do, but at a huge extra cost .. i will wait longer.. for the next wave of led lighting before i consider buying any .. by then maybe plasma and induction lamps will be the next best thing

Agreed, the marketing especially in the beginning was total bullshit from most companies. The HPS equiv and the coverage areas were totally blown out of proportion which is why a lot of people wound up with a bad taste in their mouths.
Speaking from my own experience you can still save electricity, not as much as advertised but its there. I was able to remove all HPS and CFL from my garden employing 2/3 the wattage (output wattage) of LED using mostly cree 3w chipsets.

In terms of the high kelvin white diodes, yes some of the spectrum is lost in translation on the plants but I believe these are necessary as we know the peak points for photosynthesis but are currently still researching new ways plants interpret different kinds of lights. While mid 400 nm and high 600 nm definitely targets the areas needed for veg and bloom the plants do use, but not as readily, other points in the spectrum.

To respectfully disagree the power savings is there but not as dramatic, which is a shame because if companies had been up front from the beginning we wouldn't have as many haters out there. Anyone claiming a 90w ufo will equal a 400hps should be pistol whipped.

I'm confident that as leds continue to evolve as horticultural and residential lighting we'll see the prices drop and the spectrum delivery continue to improve. For me it really wasn't about the power savings, although that was attractive, it was more about the heat issues coming from my two 400w lights. Although they were air cooled I didn't have vent tubes and fans. When I looked into the cost of adding vents and high speed fan and replacing 2 400w bulbs every six to eight months leds began looking more and more attractive, especially if they're from a legit company that offers a 3 year (or more) warranty on their products. When you look at your grow room from a long term standpoint the 1/3 power savings and real cost of bulb and potential ballast replacement it's probably about the same as growing long term with hps and cfl.

ok fine ill play your game so leds suck balls at flowering, how come your using a 1k to flower and not 2 600's dumb ass you know you use less power and get more coverage with 600's with equal intensity because they can be placed closer to your plants you've proven yourself an asswipe over and over in this thread no one believes a word you say your some 12 year old kid who dreams of workin in a hydro store and growin herb and all you've seen on the news is about 1000 watt HPS lamps powering these huge medical grows you fuckin poonani shut the fuck up and get a life already, if you could actually read you might know these things about lights and how they work but apparently you just listen to big HYDRO, Big HYDRO might as well be just as bad as big PHARMA with the shady practices they have. Fans,Fans and More Fans fellas.Depending on how tight the operation is ya dont really need activated carbon either.Another trick ya may like is to hit the Ice Cream shop and pick up a block of Dry Ice once a week $2.50 solid CO2.Buds Love It!Have a Fan circulate it while Lights are on.Doesnt do shit when its in the Dark Mode.

2 600w's arent better in my opinion.....I use 2 600ws and a 1000w i grow 32 plants at a time and 18 are under 2 600w and 9 are under a 1000w the ones under the 1000w always come out denser and tigher.....so once agian you FAIL to punk me with logic...sory try again next time......lol

this method doesnt do much if you have an exhaust fan running all the time.....Co2 works best in closed loop system not open loop....further more if you dont have a meeter to tell you what ppm of Co2 is in the room then its hard to say if its really doing anything anyways besides a placibo effect especially if its in an "open loop" grow......
