LED grow tent hydro grow

Hi guys, new to this site. I've done a lot of reading over the last couple of days and have a vague idea of what I'm going to do.

I've decided I'm going to do a closet grow tent with 1 LED + hydro for 4-8 plants. My budget is about $500-600 or so.

I need help deciding what exactly I need to purchase, because I will not be wasting time building my own stuff. I'm going all preassembled all the way. Everything will be purchased on Ebay.

Here's a few examples of what I'm looking at:

120w LED light
http://cgi.ebay.com/NEW-120-Watt-High-Power-LED-Grow-Light-Tri-Band-R-B-O_W0QQitemZ180390011930QQcmdZViewItemQQptZLH_DefaultDomain_0?hash=item2a0015241a&_trksid=p3286.c0.m14

Mylar grow tent

Hydroponic kit
http://cgi.ebay.com/HYDROPONIC-SYSTEM-BONSAI-HYDROPONICS-Greenhouse-Kit_W0QQitemZ190323528254QQcmdZViewItemQQptZLH_DefaultDomain_0?hash=item2c502a923e&_trksid=p3286.c0.m14#ht_2498wt_939

That's what I'm looking at so far, but feel free to critique. Obviously I'll need a carbon filter, ph meter, and some of nutrients as well. What else am I missing?

I will be buying feminized seeds so I don't have to waste time with males, but I don't know what strain to buy. I would like an energetic, uplifting high, but I heard those are more of an outdoor type. What's a good strain for a newbie grow?

So my main questions are what nutrients I need and what are the best solutions I need for my particular grow. All suggestions will be considered except for DIY type builds.

I really like the idea of LEDs because of the lower power consumption, lower heat output, and different spectrums of light.

Thanks in advance.

Hey Man ,
First of all, Welcome to the site.
The grow tent is great idea, i just got one as well. The hydro-system will work, kinda cheep, but will do the job if your looking to save money. Idk to much about LED's but if hey work, then go for it. Also, for an easy strain. Look into and auto-flowering bud. LIke a lowryder or a cross, such as diesel ryder. They also are kinda small plants, so there easy to hide, and dont take up much room.

Cool I will look into those strains. What kind of high are they btw?

As far as the LEDs.. I've heard they are great for the vegetative stage and not so great for the flowering stage. But that doesn't deter me because I'm not going for ultra high yield as this is more or less a personal grow for myself and maybe couple others. I'm into simplicity and efficiency. This will simplify because I don't have to switch out lights unless I want to down the road. I also won't have to worry about heat build up and high electric bills as much as the next guy.

That hydro system was just some random one I found. I would rather spend a little extra for a quality one, but what makes that inferior than the one you would suggest? Please suggest a good one because this will likely last me a while. thanks

DONT GO WITH LED'S. I tried it and it failed miserably. I use CFL's now, they are still low heat and low energy but they give the plants all the light spectrums they need, not just red and blue. LED's should only be used to supplement other lights. Im growing a Kush right now and it has an amazing high, but pick the one that attracts you. Also, get a TDS meter, the day i got mine was the day i stopped having growing problems. Good luck bro

What does failed miserably mean? Crappy yield? Dead plants? Which LED light did you have and where did you purchase it from? There are a lot of fake UFO lights out there right now from what I understand.

Also what's a TDS meter?

For an uplifting energetic high you should look into strains that are mostly sativa. They won't be as easy to grow, and they will take a little longer however.

White Widow would be good. Diesel. If you want a killer smoke here's something you might like. http://www.cannabis-seeds-bank.co.uk/barneys-farm-seeds/barneys-farm-feminized-seeds/barneys-farm-utopia-haze-feminized/prod_1160.html

I buy from The Attitude and I have had no problems shipping to the states. 7-9 days usually to the east cost so its fast too. good luck

Going with LED's is a bit risky, as there aren't many people around here reporting successful grows. I think your plan is doable if you add some CFL lights during bloom just to be safe. Unless you're dead set on trying to make a go with LED's(for which I would commend you for), perhaps an all-CFL grow would be more prudent. Make sure you get a pH meter as well and some ph UP and Down.

hey bro,
fem seed doesn't mean 100% fem plants, you know that right?

Beefsupreme has it right, don't do LED! I was there, me too, I had dreamss of grandure, where I saw people make a good go of the LED's, so I bought them.. not super great results, but I am swapping them out as soon as I can afford the t5's... if you're dead set on them, I have 6 X 50 Watters I will sell you for $150 bucks.

Hello Ultrabaka,

First I am finishing my 2nd led grow and I just bought a 600 w mh/hps system. That right there should tell you something as my limited grow efforts, self an a couple friends, is the same as yours.
I also made the mistake of buying a Hydro system similar to the one you are looking at. The problem is although it says ten gallon reservoir by the time you drop the net pots in the box your reervoir volume is only six to seven gallons and 4-9 plants in six gallons of nutes is a nightmare.
I changed lighting to increase volume as it is silly to work so hard and wait longer for diminished return. I can almost guarantee after two grows with led you'll wish you bought a cfl/t5 or mh/hps system. led will work but my yield increased adding cfl's why not just use quality cfl's.
You would be way better off to buy a large aquarium pump/ four large air stones, four five gallon buckets, net pots...(see dwc aka bubbleponics, deep water culture)
The cd is crap, there is way more info on this site, besides these folks are more knowledgeable. (insert shameless plug to the powers that be who created ROI)
I hope this saves you from some of my mistakes.
I trust the info I have learned from this site even if it is only reading a lot of old post. Good luck wih your grow-I grow legal

AMEN! I had read the LED grow journals, and the "good" results.. ya, well, they aren't sufficient. I started with the best intentions too, and I am kicking myself for not listening. Just get CFL or Flouros right off the bat... again.. I'll sell you mine.. only used for 1 month.

not sufficient not good wtf are you people smoking and reading high times magazine did an experiement and got better yields and quality out of LED people are doing test with HIDs and LEDs on youtube and the LEDs are producing better its a proven fact that LEDs are better for plant growth stop going cheap then people the $20 one from walmart arent doing it CFL is crap only for veg if its not LED its HPS a 300 watt LED light is the same as a 600 watt CFL people are sad do your research LEDs ARE BETTER

how arent they sufficient dude watch the vids on youtube were they compare read hightimes the new was is LED where do you get your info plus using CFLs crap red blue orange white spend a little more time researching
