LED Grow Lights vs. HID

yea but what LED growers dont understand is that sure led is a new thing haven't seen many pic's of there grows and final results one might think that there to embarresed for spending crazy amounts of money for low wattage
But most importantly dont think hordilux and other companys arent spending money on development and trust me folks when sales of hid surpass LED obviously they have the money to do it funny is in my thoughts LED has alot more development to do and with the public waiting and seeing (Not spending money or supporting it ) makes it a slow process with that being said and people sticking with what has proven to be the best bang for the buck HID
its my belief that Hid will be always on top

why would you say better tech ???
i saw pics of led from someone on this site 23 days veg and my hids blew that away BAD :)) i use hordilux super blue thats MH and hps in one bulb look at this pic from a 3" clone to now 25 days and in flower
Not sure if it's just the light, but they look kinda yellow.

As for Hortilux...

1000W HPS:

vs Cree XP-G LEDs

And as for the 1,000w.. don't forget the 15% overhead that the ballast uses.. actual draw is about 1,150w. ;)

You've more than likely heard of knna.. basically one of the leaders in the diy led community.. very intelligent man.

quote:
And if you want to try a mix CW+WW whites, I would love to see it in action. Right now the problem of that soluction is not really a worse efficiency, as difference with solution using red is currently small, but the somewhat increased cost. If there has been a good moment to try that solution, its right now.

quote:
Actually, XPG whites already emits some far red. Especially the WW have a very noticiable far red output. Probably only for growing shade adapted plants would be needed to add more far red yet, or those long day flowering plans that requires a shot of far red to enter flowering (although in those cases, that the supplemental far red is required for just a week, adding it with halogens seems more apropiate right now).

White (either CW or NW)+red is working really good with a variety of species.

I admit I used to bash the led panel sellers that use whites, but after looking at the spectral graph... it actually makes sense. In fact, the only "deficicient" wavelength is the 470nm Blue. 450nm RoyalBlue's are supposed to be more useful though. And as for 660nm.. the WarmWhite does pump out a lot.. in fact.. more than the Hortilux's. Same as 735nm InfraRed.. way more in the WarmWhites than the hid's.

I'm actually changing my own design midstream...

I know knna says NeutralWhites are better than WarmWhites.. but I already have 20 Warms and 20 Cools.. as well as the 660nm's. And I like the fact that the WarmWhites put out more InfraRed than the NeutralWhites. At least on paper that is. :)

Cheers......................

You've obviously been looking at the wrong posts... google "IrishBoy led" on the forums.. very impressive, and that's just "1".. plenty more.

Problem is.. most who buy a panel are thinking.. "Shit yeah.. I'm a grower!" But question is.. how much experience growing with hid's? LED's are a whole different story. For starters.. no heat, so plants don't transpire.. nutrient usage is completely different because of this. Main reason why "some" InfraRed is a good thing.

Want to see an impressive "commercial" garden?

Cool friends new a guy that spent 1.5 million on his underground grow op everything automated worked for 4 yrs till he ditched his GF for a younger one and she squeeled it took buldozers and what ever to get in it he got 3 yrs spent 6 months walked away with millions of dollars from 4 yrs of growing now most ppl are no where in your you tube or huge grow ops
what i am saying how much you think that video you got room cost :))
now that were back to earth what i am saying is for the average grower its not worth it costs exceed its a big
where as all you need is a decent room white mylar fresh air in and possible exhaust that even not needed as long as fresh air in heres one of my rooms only fresh air in no exhaust 1136 grams per 1000 watt area

"Down to Earth??" Did you not google IrishBoy like I suggested? You'd find 480w and 720w grow, 600w grow, and his latest 1,000w grow.

There's also "theherbalizor".. impressive 345w grow journal..

http://www.thcfarmer.com/forums/f8/theherbalizors-penetrator-345w-test-23349/

I just linked the commercial grow as that's the 1st vid.. or pics.. that I've seen from led's in a space that big. Everyone said it couldn't be done.. only small SoGs and SroGs in cabs, closets, or small room. That bid proves it can be done.

And if you listened to the guy in the vid.. it costs more to set up.. but costs way less to run. And the fact that no a/c or cool-tubes/air-cooled hoods to buy, and associsted fans, and just less exhaust fans needed all around.. and no reservoir chillers needed.. the initial cost wasn't that much more than if done with hid's instead. And the fact that led's last MINIMUM 5 years.. if not the full 10 they're rated for.. and the fact that you need to swap that hid every 6 to 12 months... which do ya think is cheaper in the long run??

Led's are getting stronger and cheaper every 6 months.. just like pc's. Pretty soon they'll be a lot more affordable. And if you make your own panel.. when the diodes need changing.. just change 'em yourself.. unsolder the leads, unscrew the star, clean the arctic silver off.. then prepare a new star with arctic silver, screw down, and reconnect the leads. If led dies on pre-fabbed panels.. not so easy.. unless you have a reflow pen/station. Most sellers would rather you just bought a new one :p

I can leave my house unattended for days with LEDs, ... can't really go on holidays with HIDs. I dont have to worry about burning my hairs in my tiny ass room since I swapped my 2 400W HIDs for 1 540W FERO , it's great.

Real growers don't use LEDs.

When plasma's advance and come down in price those will be the next big good thing for us real growers.

Quit reviving these old LED threads. They died out for a reason.

The only LED's out there that is worth buying, and in my opinion out performs any HID lighting is Black Dog LED'S. Just harvested my first grow and I was very pleased with what they produced. Very frosty and dense nugs. When I first started with some other brand of LED's, I had six plants under them for 5 weeks, took out the male plants (2), and placed them outside in the bright summer sun. Later that day they were burnt by the sun. Completely damaged! Shortly after that I purchased Black Dog's Platinum LED panel. Planted new seeds, and removed the males once identified. I placed them outside under the bright sky. After one full day they looked very healthy. No signs of burn. So out of curiosity I left them out there for three weeks, and they showed no signs of stress. No burning, spotting.....nothing! It's as if they thought they were still under the Black Dog! My new grow (Jesus OG clones) is coming out nicely. I want to veg them to 15 inches high and then flip them to flower. It's only been three weeks and they've already reached 15 inches. So I'm a week ahead of schedule. From what I've seen it vegs, and flowers about a week quicker. An 8 week flower strain can be harvested in 7. Bringing the utilities way down. Platinum LED only draws 750 watts. It is equivalent 1000 HPS. I think it's more than that. Room temperature is perfect without any ac units. Usually between 75 and 80 degrees, depending on how hot or cold it is in my room. Black Dog says that if you're not satisfied after first grow, they'll give you your money back. I took them up on that offer and am keeping mine. As a matter of fact, I bought another one. You cannot go wrong with a Black Dog LED. 5w's not 3w's. Peace out!

I find it's the old fogies who can't adapt to change to believe the $1000 200W plasmas will somehow overtake LEDs. It's usually because it looks sooo much like their old school stone age HPS's they can't resist. Far out man remember the 60s dude? laff
