It's a definite thing now:
GoGreenLED 4 cob fixtures are only $377 WITH FOURTH OF JULY COUPON CODE. This is THEE CHEAPEST fixture you can buy with CXB3070's on the market right now. So if you're wanting to get In to LED, look to GOGREENLED.

I have a question, What is the name of the form factor when mono diodes come with the little tails either side? Can you get these made up with any type of diode? Cree, osram etc. I have a small chinese fixture with a nice PCB that I wish to upgrade with better diodes in this form factor. Any information and or links to fufill my quest will be met with great praise and adulation.

Is it called a heatsink slug?

I don't think you can get any brand made up, it seems like certain brands use certain package methods.
I'm sure bridgelux do some like that. Or at least some of the ones I have are supposed to be bridgelux. Probably change package as you go higher up on the quality and efficiency scale.
You could adapt a lot of chips though I would of thought. Could be wrong Will!!

Thank you for that info coreywebster. I was wondering that as well. Good question Will!

Ha I wish it were actual knowledge and not just relentless searching online. Took me a while and a fair few search phrases to find that. I may be wrong on the heat slug, it would seem that may just be the tiny bit below the diode in contact with the pcb or heat sink, possibly the correct bit would be the extended lead frame, not sure but still interesting seeing how they have progressed in design.
I was determined to try and help Will. After all you've helped me out with knowledge and inspiration!

I may just have to look into this reflow oven jazz. I watched a few videos look fairly straightforward.

I'd like to introduce my new and growing led company: GROWLAZER

here is my 400 watt light. Runs at a cool 60 watts total with super high efficiency and leading edge tech. Cheaper than Mars hydro but exact same LEDs.

This light with holder can be purchased for 4 easy installments of $19.99

Just look at the plants thrive under it.

Here at GROWLAZER we strive for the best performing diode personally inspected and tested by my lead tech.

Here you see one of my LEDs scoring a perfect 10 at 1000volts. Incredible

I think it looks pretty damn cool & very innovative.

how does water cooling a surface mount diode differ from water cooling a chip on board led or any other type of semi-conductor?
a customer sent me a link on this and I liked the concept, then I saw they were using low cost P2 china leds and was a bit disappointed, It seems to go to this amount of design you should be using top quality diodes and maintain a combo of output/eff without any concern about thermals, Cree or osrams at greater density would work beautifully with these
cheers

These are based on the original Power Led the LUX1 from lumileds back in the day, I would not use this form factor in a linear board, this package tech is 12 years old
