Whats up my fellow growers Grow Master Cheesey here with some trimming tips during flowering stage as well as some post crimping shots.
So during flowering stage some growers believe that trimming/training will stress out the plants (which it does based on methods). i personally believe that if you trim during flowering it will actually help the plant produce a bigger yield but will take longer due to the plant having to heal.
So i will take you threw the steps of trimming as well as showing you pictures so you can see what and how im doing these methods.
the methods that i have used on this grow are
Topping
Crimping
LST combined with Sea of Green
Topping is when you cut the main steam at least 4 nodes down in order to activate the nodes beneath the injury. See when you injure the plant it will stop trying to grow that area and will focus on growing the other areas of the plant. what this does is create more nodes and cola spots. make sure to give your plant plenty of time to heal before you trim or top again. so that you wont stress out the plant to much.
Crimping is like topping but instead of removing the whole stem you basicaly snap it so that it falls to the side but is still conected to the main stem. this is still stressful but is less stressful than topping. what crimping is know for is that when you top your plants you only recieve 2-3 more spots but when you crimp your plants it usually results anywere from 4-6 more cola spots. i will include pics of were i crimped my Icy Kush and the spots that resulted from crimping.
Now i use a combined method of LST (tying you secondary stems to make the plant more bush) and SOG(Sea of Green) which lays net tresles over the plants and forces them to use all avaible light.
The Training regiment that I follow is
Veg Stage
Week 1-2 let plants grow until about 8 inch tall
Week 3 top/ crimp the plants
Week 4 instal SOG and loop MAIN STEM threw tresels
(what this does is makes the nodes form colas instead of just being flowering spots)
Week 5 Crimp plants again
Week 6 plants should be at least 18inch tall (place into flowering 12/12)
Week 7-14 let plants grow and simple trim fan leafs to give more light to the lower levels of nodes
Threw out the remaining weeks continue looping the main stem in the tresels so that you will eventually make a full circle
now ill show you guys how i trim a plant and how much you can take off without doing to much damage to the pant and how it will give you more yield in the end.
when trimming during flowering make sure not to touch the bud spots if necesarry to move stem use the fan leafs
Step 1 :identify the fan leafs( classic weed leaf)
Step 2: find cola/bud spots that are being blocked by big leafs(over 4 inch not including stems) cut these spots 1st because it will increase your yield
Step 3: cut with clean shears as close to the main stem as possible
Step 4: take trimmings and keep them you can make oil/butter later =]
now remember to give your plant plenty of time to heal in between trimmings. and try to do most of your gardening in the morning or when your lights turn on
pics:
1) identifying fan leaf
2) cutting as close to main stem as possible
3) reveal more bud sites
4) crimping our highest cola about 4 weeks into flowering
