Leaf Burns with Neem Oil

Sorry to hear about your disaster! =( I am a newb, but after talking to a very knowledgeable grower, he recommended mighty wash for spider mites. He said neem is great, but after a while they build up an immunity to it (with his experiences) We tried the mighty wash and the only thing it did was kill all the mites, all I did was spray them once 2 minutes before lights out. I know the bastards will be back because my two kittys go outside and get into the room with the tent at times, but after a week the mites are still gone! Good luck with everything! =)

okay i feel like total shit there DEAD!! nothing I can do. What I did wrong was I added too much neem oil. I thought this thing was user friendly and you could add as much as you can and NOTHING would happen. Thats what I thought at least. God the feeling of losing your WHOLE crop due to something you were trying to make better is THE WORST FEELING EVER. You THINK your DOING GOOD, but NOPE. FUCK, it's like literally getting shot in the heart. I feel the pain. Well.... back to day ONE again... fucking NEEM OIL.. never again using a different product next time. What a waste anyways thanks for the advice guys I should have listened carefully. This should be MY LAST grow that EVER dies. This isn't the first time. Learned about the nutrient burns the hard way. Now the neel oil GOD DAMN. It was only 20 1 footers with MANY tops UGH. I will have to achieve this again. UGh What doesn't hurt MOST is what just happened to me. SERIOUSLY it's like my wife just divorced me and LOST EVERYTHING. I HATE THAT FEELING UGH time to get stoned.

Sorry bout the luck man. Neem oil is a great product I wouldn't not use it. You should always start with a 30% concentrate of anything new you use and always always always test new stuff on a small portion of the plant first. If you do switch from neem oil make SURE that everything you spray on your plants says FOOD GRADE MATERIALS. We all live and learn just sucks you had to lose an entire crop. All I can say now is I bet you never do it again. Good luck man and keep us posted.

Try this mixture next time
3 cap fulls of neem oil
a drop or so of some soap (just enough for the soap to break up the oil)
mixed in 1 quart of Luke warm water
Been using this mixture for awhile now works flawlessly say goodbye Spider mites

The instructions on the bottle are not correct for what we are trying to achieve!

I'd go out on a limb and say this was your problem: You used more than "just a few drops" of dawn dish soap and it cooked the shit out of your leaves. I too did this when I first used neem oil. Then I spoke with some experts who recommended two changes to the wetting agent (dawn in your case and my first usage as well). They said Dawn is too harsh of a dishsoap to use as a wetting agent, try softsoap. It worked much better, no burning. And they also told me to only use 2-3 drops, not a "full pump" or 2-3 ml per gallon of soap, just a little bit...literally a few drops.
Then I found out about SM-90, which is a lot safer to use than any soap. You must use a wetting agent, I recommend sm-90, but if you can't use that....then I recommend soft soap. Steer clear of Dawn when making foliar neem sprays.

Would you not have looked up how to use it before spraying it on ALL your plants ????

Neem oil will definitely burn the shite of your plants if its too strongly mixed. Some brands of neem are probably more potent. Grotek Neem is super potent and should only be used at 1/4 recommended strength. 1-2 mls per litre, not 5-10. For all the people who don't agree, mix up a super strong batch of neem and spray just one leaf. It will be burnt to shite, and prob dead by the next day.

Bump for good luck. You learned for a lot of people. Sorry about your luck. Learning curve can be a bitch.

Neem is one of the softest safest bug killers. Antibacterial dish soap isnt.....

I've sprayed plants with dish soap. Not MJ.... They fried. Took two weeks to recover from stress.

A good substitute for neem oil would be azamax which has neem oil already mixed in along with its wetting agent and other substances too only difference is you mix azamax up with water and spray plus it dont stink

Dam thats got to be gutting.
Iv used neem with success. Followed instructions where were 5ml for 10L. Got a little bit of burn but I only do 1 plate at a time and leave over night so if I do mess up still have some left.
Ended up reducing the mixture to 1ml per 5L for sparying on, and 2.5ml for 10L of watering soil every 20 days.

I sorta did the same thing but realized it about 20 min later and washed them off. The new growth seems burnt more than anything. 4 weeks from seed. its been a couple hours now.just wondering what to expect. I think I got most off and turned the lights off after about an hour of them being on but plants have been kept misted since It happened.

Okay well I feel like ALL my FUCKING hard work about 5 GOOD MONTHS of work into this ALL DOWN THE DRAIN cuz of this stupid fucking product "NEEM OIL" makes me so made that all this shit happened... like WHAT THE FUCK. I'm reading post above saying every things fine and I take a look into my garden and every things NOT fine. I have like 2 healthy plants left and there HALF healthy because I didn't spray that part. I have no idea what happened but I think I have a clue. I put too much neem oil inside the water and less soap. It looked fine in the bottle, but smelled REALLY bad. I thought that was GOOD. and I thought you were supposed to spray the hell out of the plants. Maybe i'm wrong and your just supposed to mist it and mist it with water after. What I did was just spray the shit out of it top and bottom til it was soaking and let them sit like that at that in the night. Well I woke up to a bunch of DEAD plants. UGH. Next time I won't use as much. What a waste of time doing this. Here I am trying to make things better and this is what I get.

Just drench your roots next time with the neem. Start at week 3. Do it at week 6 and 9ish too. Spraying can be a real bitch sometimes. It works but it's annoying.

Do not understand why no one asked if you had sprayed any other stuff on plants in the past week. If you used any other stuff on your plants in the past week or 2, then you had a chemical reaction which burned the leaves. Use joy not dawn also. I did this once. Fighting an outbreak of mites and some mold, I put a bug bomb for mites in the grow tent. Then a few days later I sprayed them with neem oil and almost every leaf fell off those plants, cuttings were destroyed. The large plants revived but we're never the same. Neem can also be used systemically in the soil which works good.

I do a full dip in neem oil with ALL clones obtained at the dispensary. 3 dips, 3 days apart before going into my room. I use 1oz/gallon of water of the concentrate and have never had a problem.
This post is ancient I know but to revisit a topic that hopefully may help someone; what would you recommend Budlover, for someone that primarily veges under 24hrs of light? I love the neem oil and use it through the first week of the flower stretch then stop to give them one last bit of help before the race. Anyway, wanting to use it more in veg as my latest genetics are going to require a bit of veg time (and therefore a bit more IPM) whereas the last cultivars I was working with like to go right from the cloner to 12/12 SOG style.
Based on the way these crosses look so far, I'm guessing a 2-2.5 week veg period (from clone) so I want to try and fit in a full 3 weeks IPM schedule while I have the ability to do so without overdoing it.
Cheers and thanks the information!

Ancient post etc, I FEEL this emotion...gaaal, the failure that kicks you in the stomach like that. I did this a while back, used an 'organic' herbal product. like cinnamon, cloves that sort of stuff... that totally burned the babies that I had just transplanted to their final pots but the root balls weren't big enough for the pot yet to be losing so much upper foliage.

I lost half of my very expensive genetics to root rot. Now I hate naming products and calling them bad so I will say this, maybe it was a bad batch I don't know but if you absolutely must try this product, try ONE leaf on each plant first. give it 2 days*. It's called Maggie's Farm http://www.maggiesfarmproducts.com/details.php?prodId=45 I could have even mixed it too strong but that stuff reeks of spices, very concentrated and based on my experience I highly recommended that you avoid this product for cannabis.
*. If you have mites and have that 'must act now' panic use isoprophl alchohol at 1:4 with H2o the 1 being alcohol. do it under shade or just before lights out. Then use neem lightly and you get this back and forth of stripping lipids (insects and their shells, but plants to a bit) with alcohol and water then after a good 2 day heal, we coat/protect whatever with a lipid or oil such as Neem.

I've used the above successfully as it was passed on to me by a very longtime grower and expert and have killed infestations dead in 2 weeks. The problem I currently have is my system is setup to veg 24/7 so i'm trying to work out how to do this without a dark period, or, maybe give them a dark period.

Cheers and again man, I totally felt your pain.
