Late flower bugs

Hi all,

My first outdoor plants and noticed these bugs, little green ones. Not sure what they are or if they are going to be a problem for me. Also, noticing these calyxes are way more swollen than the one I finished indoors. Wondering if they are normal or if they look pollinated. Not that there is anything I can do about it now lol.

Thanks much!

Yup, that's what it looks like, thanks for your help! I have some BT gonna try spraying just the fan leaves this evening.
BT is for caterpillars only I believe and won't do anything to most other bugs. There is no way to just spray leaves to you can prevent a lot of it from hitting the buds if careful and use something to block the overspray.

If you have warm, dry weather in the forecast you could just hit the plants with a good spray from the garden hose then shake off the excess water. That works to get rid of most of the bugs. From your pictures it doesn't look like you are having an infestation so probably don't need to do anything. I had all sorts of bugs visit my plants this summer and other than a spray with the hose a couple times to knock down the thrips didn't do anything and found almost no damage while trimming. Seems most bugs like leaf hoppers will go elsewhere if there's lots of other things to eat as pot isn't all that tasty for many insects. I never saw any mites or aphids but the wife's peppers and tomatoes in her greenhouse got badly infested with both and needed lots of sprays with Safer's Soap with added canola oil which is my goto with vegging plants that have bugs.

Good luck!

Leaf hopper for sure. They are always around my girls. I spray BT weekly, but they are still there the morning after
Is it BTK or BTI you are using? BTK is for caterpillars and won't do anything to other bugs. BTI is also specific to certain bugs like mosquitoes, fungus gnats and other bugs that have that larval stage I believe. I use the Gnatrol for the gnats and BTI is it's main ingredient. Same stuff in mosquito dunks.

BTK is what I'm currently using. I got it for these damn caterpillars trying to devour my flowers. I did notice there was a second BTI like you said for the flyers like mosquitos and gnats, but those don't seem to be a problem for me, at least ATM. Fingers crossed it stays that way.

Yes I noticed as soon as went out there it would be really difficult to avoid the buds. I've read that BT is ok a week before harvest but my plants are in a tent so they don't get wet and I am worried that stuff will end up in the smoke.

I'm in the same boat currently, and many many growers suggesting a bud wash at harvest. If it were me, I would personally leave them alone, unless you are seeing damage from them...I have been living with leaf hoppers all year and they don't seem to do anything but attract my eyes, I think they are super pretty, lol. My recommendation would be different for infestation, but one or two?? I would just leave em be. I should add it's my first time growing cannabis tho, previous years I just play in my flower and veggie gardens

We had thousands of grasshoppers early this year due to that heat dome thing that hit around mid June and then again later. Had a few munching on my plants but not enough to go to war on them. We threw up some fencing around the garden area and let the chickens loose in there every day. They all got so fat they couldn't fly any more. ;) Kidding aside they do a good job of getting rid of all the bugs they can find. Almost dug up a couple of the plants scratching around the bases tho but no serious damage done.

I think I counted 6 of them but not seeing much damage so far fingers crossed I will wait it out. Good idea about the bud wash, I can do that if I end up needing to spray the plants.

What are you growing and how are your plants doing?

LOTS of grasshoppers here too. I have only found one in the tent so far and gave it the boot. I've been keeping the door closed when it's not too hot, and plenty of other stuff around here for them to eat.

This is my first grow and am doing for fun to test the waters before I spend money on an indoor grow. That being said, I have a semi mystery garden of bag seeds, lol. My three littlest were from Mimosa and my largest 2 are a true mystery but sure are pretty. Everything seems to be going decent if I could just stop finding caterpillars. Which is where the BT and bud wash come in.

How about you? How's your grow going?

That is good to hear, aside from the caterpillars :)

This is my first grow of pretty much anything. We are allowed to have 4 plants here so I got some seeds from HSC when I was visiting in CA. I did 2 P.P.D and 2 sour diesels. I killed off 2 seedlings right away and popped 2 more 2 weeks later. I built a little grow room in my barn and was going to grow them entirely inside. I was so excited to see them grow I forgot I needed to flip them before they got too big. So I moved 3 outside and was able to harvest the inside plant a couple of weeks ago. It is some of the best I’ve ever smoked, def on par with dispensary stuff. I had to learn everything on the fly and it was exciting and stressful, but I am so glad I took the plunge!
