Ok, so what about those people who don't work and suck off the teat only? What about those who refuse to work?
I think that at a certain point, as has been mentioned, motivation or the lack thereof becomes an issue. There are simply too many people who want to rip off the government without considering that it is, collectively, us and themselves (if you're putting into the kitty) that is being ripped off.
I've taught my kids that what they don't like can and should be changed. I've run for a government seat, vote, write, and am as involved as I can be. After the experience running for a local gov. seat I can state unequivocally that I will NEVER do it again, though.

If you're working you're likely paying taxes (if you're not, do NOT fuck around with the IRS, just take my experienced word on this). Fundamentally we are the government, it's not such a difficult concept. And if you don't accept that, but do pay taxes, then you're saying you're a proponent of being screwed by proxy, essentially, since we fund our government.

No I dont pay taxes on my business all cash few checks,and for my other job I file exempt...Fuck the IRS you can screw them just as easily with good paper work and by the way if they ever look into me they will go after the my tax company not me...

+Rep to you Seamaiden. You are exactly who the system is SUPPOSE to be helping.... those who are honestly trying to find work. I'm glad my tax dollars help Americans such as yourself who are suffering through a rough patch but looking forward to the day when that help is no longer needed.
I'm disgusted that my money goes to support people cradle to grave who think they are entitled to a lifetime of handouts and never even attempt to contribute.
People who think they are "sticking it to the man" are really just sticking it to the rest of us. I see that attitude as "fuck you... you work and I'll sit back and collect your tax dollars". If NO ONE worked.... where would that handout come from?
I do agree that the government does not spend our money wisely.... but I don't think the answer is to steal from other taxpayers by kicking back and collecting welfare cradle to grave. We the people DO have the ability to stop voting for Big 2 candidates... we can change who is running our government if only we stopped having that "oh well.... my vote doesn't matter" attitude.
Change doesn't happen until the COLLECTIVE GROUP of us citizens get off our asses and say "enough is enough!" and change our mentality when it comes to casting our votes.
Yes I REALLY DO believe change can happen if it is the will of the people.... this Country's very existence is PROOF of it.

Thank you Florida. My husband supports me, but I found myself in your sister's situation. I took a different route and ended up regretting it. I could not bring myself to take the dole (plus, at the time I couldn't because real property was in my name), so my parents took my boys and I tried to make a go of it for all of us. Didn't work out as I'd hoped, having also been a stay-at-home mom with special needs kids.
Either way, I agree with you totally, it should be there to help people get on their feet, not act as the lone stand-in. I'm glad your sister made such a good go of it, good on her.

I feel badly for any person who goes hungry. It's one of the reasons I donate regularly to a local food bank.
I do have to say though.... the government does NOT OWE YOU anything..... unless perhaps you are a soldier who was wounded and is not able to work. If that is the case then I certainly would agree that you are OWED money to eat.
