Area 51 is clearing their old models at lower prices now and Onyx is also lower to clear stock. The Onyx web site may say 250 watt draw but that's a type-o,I've checked and it's a little over 210 watts.

That's entirely up to you on waiting. LED tech is moving very fast and if you always want the best you'll be constantly upgrading. It's like computer CPU's and video cards used to be,one huge speed leap after another every six months. At their current prices Area 51 and Onyx are the best bang for your buck for quality and performance and should last for many years. The new models will out perform them but no one knows by how much yet and the price on the new lights isn't known. There is also DIY COBs that are the current top performers and even less money than Area 51's and Onyx's current panels.

My upgrade plan is use my panels for a couple years then sell them and use that money towards the newest ones. LED tech is advancing fast and prices are coming down as it advances so I figure the ever increasing electric savings along with increased performance should make it a positive upgrade every 2 to 3 years until the advances slow down. I have a few friends that are HPS growers and want to try LED but the cost scares them,they'll be able to try it out with my used panels and see for them selves.

Nice good thoughts. Do you have a link on the diy lights? I think maybe picking up the cheap last models might be a good idea for me. Is it definitly going to put perform my kind?

I have no doubt at all about them out performing Kind. If you want great unbiased DIY info stick to SupraSPL's DIY COB threads,he got me started with COBs,he has a general one for Cree CXA3070's but it also has specs and info on other COBs,he also has threads on drivers,heatsinks and reflectors for COBs. There are a lot very knowledgeable LED people here,more than I've seen in any other forum.

Don't really think I hyped anything here,I gave a honest opinion on the light he purchased and pointed out 3 alternatives that would be money better spent. Don't you think 465 watts of RW's,630 watts of Onyx or $1200 worth of DIY quality COBs would way out perform a $1200 430 watt Kind panel with mystery LEDs? I even downplayed the new lights that are coming from Area 51 and Onyx because nobody has tried them yet,but on paper they should be great.

Yes they have 5700k whites on one switch and 630 nm reds on another so you can veg with just the whites running then turn on the reds for flower. If your budget is in the $1200 to $1300 range that would do a nice job in a 4x4,if you have the extra money 4 RW-150s would max out your spaces potential for the money unless you went DIY 3070's or something of similar quality. Jeff at Area 51 will usually give a discount for multi panel purchases but I'm not sure with them being marked down already but it may be worth asking him.

Hi Capt, I wasn't picking on anyone in particular. I wouldn't want to change my lights mid grow, espically a new grower. Yes there are possibly better options but save it for the next grow would be my advise. That way you could measure the improvement. And just because they don't mention the brand of diodes etc doesn't necessarily mean they are junk, just means you don't know what your buying and if a person is happy with that fine! Do any of us know who made the parts that go into making our cars etc? We know the car not the parts is my point

I also hate to see someone not get the best bang for his buck,if he can get his money back on the Kind I say go for it,or he's stuck with it and won't get much for it used is my guess. I'm not saying the diodes are junk in the Kind but who knows,they don't say what they are. I think it's been proven around here that quality white or quality white with red will out perform these red-blue 6 to 12 band LED panels.
And your right about some of the behavior going on around here,I've gotten sucked into a couple pissing matches with trolls lately. Sometimes it's hard to just bite your tongue and read this crap from people who don't know much about LED and still think HPS is king and that it won't be losing it's throne anytime soon. How can someone like that give LED advise to anyone,but if no one calls them out,LED newbies may listen to them and make some bad choices.

Thanks for the replies. I'm having the biggest problem getting my kind light to turn off and on with the settings on board. Have to plug into a timer which disrupts the slow beginning of the light to a full power brightnes. I tried to reprogram the light timer settings on board and It never turned off last night so bummed. Will one day of screwing up flower light sceduale screw things up too badly?

If your plants are healthy and your genetics are stable you have no worries. A little troubling for a new light to have a problem already. When I read about these remotes I thought it was just a unneeded sales gimmick and it was just another failure point to worry about,especially if they use low budget parts and have questionable quality control.

Yea I think the timer unit has failed to work right. I'm definitly going to return it for that reason. Frustrated the flowers were coming in so perfect. I know itll be ok But dam that timer!
