Best thing for bugs IMO is a tobacco spray that you make by taking a pack of american spirit cigs (No additives) and a quart of water. (remove tobacco from sleeves) Simmer for half an hour and cool. Add another quart of water and spray bottom of leaves first, then undersides of leaves. Don't foget the top of the soil in the container nor the walls surrounding your plants. i have used this method with great success on Spider mites as well as thripes. it also works 100 times better than the typical Neem oil, Safer soaps, anything I ever found. Also this is widely used among commercial nurseries but very expensive and must be used with care because it is very toxic. Wear rubber gloves, and nose and mouth protection. last but not least; This is a completely organic solution and will not affect the taste, smell or any other characteristic of your plants. Within a day or two it will all be absorbed by the plant - the bugs WILL BE GONE and life will be good again.

ORGANICIDE all the way! It stinks, but it works great. Its only like $13 at home depot and it kills adults and eggs. Mix it with some neem oil and you now have a systemic as well.

I gave trial #2 a go... and burned the shit out of my plants.

Anyone wanting to try this.. I highly suggest a better rinse than a "spritz" of water afterward.

I may as well have used a flamethrower to kill the mites. :fire: FUCK.

Oh well... live and learn I guess. Neem WILL control the 2 spotted mites, you just have to stay on top of it and stick a a scheduled maintenance, but on my quest for a bigger faster and better way I did way more harm than good.

For anyone trying out any of these ideas, do yourself a big favor, and try it on only one plant first, dont be an idiot like me and go all in.

I'm waiting for long term effects on the plants I've sprayed,before I'll try it on my plants.
Try mixing up some and try it outside on whatever you can find with an infestation.
The original recipe from a Landscape gardener was: 1/2 cup baking soda, 1 cup vinegar,2cups apple peels.
Blend/Puree , filter , dilute to 2 liters. I haven't tried this one yet (no apple peels).
The trick seems to be 1/2 cup Baking soda to 1 cup vinegar,diluted to approximately 2 liters.
The dishsoap helps wetting & the juices boost effect. #2 seems to help with molds/fungus also.It reduced blackspot on Roses,Gladiolis and Rhodi's and white mold on Roses.( The coast is a perfect proving ground for this stuff!!! We have ALL the bugs and molds !!! I don't have to go far to find infestations of all kinds.)

For 2 days I have hosed my backyard with this stuff,so far it has reduced blackspot & powdery mildew(white mold),killed all the small insects(size seems to matter on kill,gnats or smaller).
The only plants adversely affected so far are FERNS (they don't like it much,wilted some).

There seems to be some mild burning where the solution was left on and collected/concentrated.
I would recommend using the 2 liter dilution and spritzing with fresh water afterward and shaking off as much as possible so the formula doesn't collect and concentrate itself to the point it burns tender leaves.
I didn't notice any damage except where it had concentrated and dried,so spritzing and shaking off should do the trick.As far as effectiveness goes,wow! The death and destruction it deals to mites is impressive !!

yea i never ended up trying that one once i started using the nicotine tea.. it works the best unless you have access to floramite or avid.

ME TOO! FUCK! Burnt all the pistils on my plant! I'm quite pissed off about this.

DO NOT USE #2 during flowering!!! It WILL ruin your plant :-( FUCK!

Simple Grower - thanks for the message if i'd have read all the fine print i would have seen that in the post.

I wanted to get some opinions on this product: Naturalis - L , it's full of fungus spores that attack specific pests including mites, thrips etc. I like the fact that it's all natural and not harmful to the plants but it hasnt been tested for indoor use. Also, it doesnt kill beneficial insects. I ordered some and am going to spray a perimeter areound the house and maybe even in the crawl space. THen if I actually see bugs in my tent I'll blast it too, what the hell right? But, just wanted to see if anyone else had used it.

So Im guessing drowning them, or getting them to stick is the best option?
Im guessing they cant jump etc?
So if I put sticky/oily stuff that they cant go though around the pot etc, they cant get in in the first place?

Wicked post by the way, helped out a lot, looks like I got mites developing at the mo, so Im gunna hit them hard first thing tommorrow.

Gunna lace the stems with oil and keep drowning the buggars.

Any one know if vegetable oil will effect soil/roots?
Had some of these on my fridge twice in the last two years. dunno where they come from, but I know how hard they are to get rid of, they hung round for 5weeks, with out food, got in the freezer(?!) and generally fecked about with my head.
Im 2 weeks away from harvest, with no outward sign of damage, guessing the things that are happening now are just normal slowing down proceedures.

IE a couple of stems/leaves are starting to go autumn leave colour and are dying off.

man my mite problem was goin alright for a lil while. there were just a few around. then this heat came and the temps flew into the nineties and even a hunderd and the mites got OUt oF CONTROLL dude.

question: when harvesting with mites does putting plants into 2 days of darkness make the mites wanna leave at all or would they stay on the plants in the dark?

Careful with the nicotine! I put the tobacco from 1 cigarette in a 12 oz. mason jar and steeped it. For over a month actually. I was anticipating the yearly mite battle here in texas. I put 1 teaspoon in a two cups of water and spayed it on some fire ants which quickly seized up and died. It is very possible to kill plants with a nicotine mix. I have spayed something similar to my straight 1 cig/ 1 jar of h20 mix and killed the plant in about a day. Live and learn.

pinkus, steeping that long, you most likely allowed the carcinogens in the cigarettes to break down and become a part of the mixture.. as you know cigarette companies add thousands of chemicals such as embalming fluid, arsenic, and god knows what else to the mix.. this can definitely kill ANYTHING

this is why you use organic tobacco, and steep it just long enough to draw out the nicotine, and not all the other crapola..

and mrownz, cleanliness is next to godliness... you only get mites from bringing them in on your clothes, on pets, and on other plants.. if you change your clothes before you go in, and clean plants before transplanting them into your grow room, you should have no issues.
