GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. (AP) — The Michigan appeals court has ruled in favor of Grand Rapids in a challenge to a law that that makes possession of small amounts of marijuana a civil offense similar to a traffic ticket.

The Kent County prosecutor argued that Grand Rapids was illegally trumping state law. But the appeals court says there’s an important distinction. It notes that voters made the change by amending the City Charter, or constitution — not through an ordinance.

The court says there’s no conflict. The 3-0 decision was released Friday.

Grand Rapids police officers have been told not to report marijuana cases to the prosecutor unless they involve grow operations or a drug house; someone has more than 2.5 ounces of marijuana; or a person is caught with pot during another crime.

Well what about the other towns that just changed their city ordinance on pot ?? Looks like the lawyer's are going to have some work to do

Yeah AA is cool but there was this other town, ? I can't recall which, somewhere in SE Michigan, the local police chief thought the voters voice did not count when they changed local pot laws last Nov. He too thought "the city was illegally trumping state law".

The sad part is these jerks who fight and lose, still get to stay in office-power. They can't even understand the law yet they get to represent the law everyday in court.

Target and Isolate those prosecutors.. Vote em out .
Most only won by a handful of votes, or on some party coat tails..
Take them out and the whole house of cards falls down

Great Ruling that will be tough to take further, but they will try I think

Once the case dies, I am curious as to how cities will react. I bet we are going to see many more charter amendments
