Keeping a PC box on balcony? (safety and other concerns)

Anyone keep a PC grow box on balcony? I am considering it as an option if the plants start to stink too much. My balcony is pretty private and the box won't be seen.

I was wondering if it's a dumb idea? My concerns are the following:

1. Safety: I live in California and chances of getting caught with a heavy rain is small, especially in the coming months. I have a roof over my balcony but a heavy rain with wind would probably splash water on the box. I would elevate the box off the floor. Its a PC box running about 7 x 23w CFLs. I can probably place a cover over it or get a cheap little table to place it under.

2. Am I being naive in thinking that the fresh air will dissipate the smell enough so that my neighbors won't smell it? I know dif strains have different amounts of smell. Mine is a Strawberry Diesel/ Tahoe OGK hybrid.

3. Infestation: In my apt, I feel my plants are pretty protected from various bugs, molds, etc... Am I increasing my risk by placing them outside? Will wind blow crud into my box and cause problems?

Any other factors I did not consider?

Thanks!

Does the smell really matter where you live?

You don't want moisture getting into the CFL ballasts.
As long as you're sure the bulbs are protected then there is no problem

Hey I have a few plants on my balcony, I normally use the sun though. But even on sunny days I put cfls for backlighting. I'm on the top floor so nobody smells anything. If you have side neighbors on same floor I would be worried.. If your in a house you will be fine.

From my experience my bud is just as clean outside if not more so (my german sheperd has a mean undercoat) but no dirt or leaves and all of this depends on where you live, I'm in tx so I think cali has pretty similar weather just not quite as hot

Why put it outside?

your in a legal state right? then fuck your neighbors.. i see only 2 issue's with the box outside-1- moisture from the outside temps and inside temps are bound to create a dew or moisture some how inside. so even if you put it outside i would cover or decorate it to suite your area.
2 POLLEN POLLEN AND OH YEAH POLLEN ,, your taking the chance on pollen getting in your box and seeding up your hard work.. but that's just my opinion.. good luck and KEEP ON GROWIN

God i hate hair in buds. My last harvest had tiny hairs embedded inside them from a hairy blanket i used to block light, before i got
some panda film. Wasnt too bad though

Mainly because I don't want it to stink up my apt.

ONA GEL ONA GEL ONA GEL.

Seriously, order some ona gel. I used it in my PC box when i lived with my rents and they never complained about the smell. We were smoking some good bud 90% of the time though.
