do a search for the diy cool tube, i am about to be dealing with this same thing. from what i have gotten off the site you need to do the exhaust at the hps light to suck the heat out of the room.
also look up diy ac, and have you thought about rerouting some of the ac ducting directly to the closet ?

Air cooled lamps vented out of the room are a great option.

Get a bigger fan. With HID lighting you should be cycling the air once a minute, work out the volume of your growbox and get a fan that can easily move that much air every minute. Bear in mind that things like carbon filters and ducting (especially if it's more than a few feet long or has bends in it) will reduce the actual amount of air the fan can move below it's rating. Don't get an axial fan unless it's literally just blowing air from one side of a wall to the other, they don't work well at all with static pressure.
I just bought a ceiling exhaust fan with a ball bearing motor that should move around 300m3 of air per hour. My room is 5.7m3 of air so I hope this works for me. It's winter here now so it should be fine but I'm unsure of summer, the fan will be hooked up to a thermostat so it only kicks in when needed. I will be installing some ducting on the opposite side of the room as air intake, the outtake will pump the hot air directly into my roof space. I'm setting it all up tomorrow before I hit my plants with a 400w HPS so will let you know how it goes.

This is the biggest reason why people are going with T5's rather than HPS.
Also T5's don't use that much electricity, and the bulbs don't cost that much.
A 4 foot 8 bulb T5 fixture is equivalent to a 400 watt HPS.
Plus you can put the lights inches from the tops of your plants.
Personally I think plants receive more light with these T5's.
