the plant has sprouted the first set of leafs and is about 7 inches tall
it has tinfoil all around the bottom of the closet right now and a hole drilled
through the side for some air flow.

7 inches tall and one set of leaves?
My babies have several sets of leaves and none of them are 7 inches tall yet.
That sounds like stretching due to lack of light. What kind of light are you using?

sounds liek a stretch to me.. we also cant tell you how it's doing really without a pic, but from your desc it sounds like you have bad lighting or it's not close enough.. more info on your setup would be nice, like your temps, type of soil, water.. etc

from my understanding of lighting you want to have your light close so that it's not burning your plants, but not too far or your plants will stretch. a test that has been talked about at times is for you to put your hand under the light source where your plants would be. if your hand is burning then you have your light too close. i believe you want the light to be a few inches away from hot. also, go find a fan to blow on your plants, it will help them grow strong.

Sounds like it could be two problems...How far away is the light from the plant...and do you have a fan blowing on the seedling? I have many seedlings going that have many sets of leaves and are only two inches tall...just try to lower the light and add some fans in there...good luck...:peace:
