Just some quick questions

This is my first post as I have become more serious about this hobby.

I have some cash saved up for new supplies and seeds but am a little confused still.
I want to get buy Fox Farm Ocean Forest soil and the trio-pack of nutes...I use tap water that has been left out in an open container atleast 24hours before being used...Then I am planning on a 400watt hps..The space that it will be in is my closet which is about 3feet by 3feet and about 6feet tall with a shelf towards the top that is about 2feet tall...All in all its almost 8feet tall...I have also cfls i can add to the lower areas past the canopy if need be...I never transplanted plants before and my current grow I took them when they germinated and put them into a pot and have been there since....
Since Im investing more cash and time into this grow, how would go about moving them to different pots, and how should I start once the seeds germinate? How should I start the lights?with my current cfl grow, i started 24/0 then jumped to 12/12..

Also, my cfls never got the spot too how, with the 400w hps, how would I go about getting the heat out of the closet as I will always have the door closed?

Any helpful info will be great. quick break down as Im baked right now...
I am getting 400w hps, fox farm soil and nutes and have a fan and cfls(if needed,2700k)
what else do i need?My closet is white and the door is flat white on the inside to help reflect.
Should i get any meters and pay attention to anything in particular?

Im growing midnight kush with cfls and its flowering right now....but I want hps to getter yield and overall better everything :) im done with cfls now.....what seeds would anyone suggest?

You might want to have a plan first, post that up and I'm sure there'll be lots of input. You're going to have to research air extraction, re potting, and odour control...for a start. Sounds like an ideal space and good equipment, I wish I lived down your road!

Well, my plan of attack is to buy 5gallon pots, have 3 plants flowering in 3x3x7ft tall....400w hps...though im not sure how far to keep these from the plants.......for soil i was think fox farm and the trio nutes...was also thinking of not having to repot and just start in the bigger pots...and i want to try lst and have the whole 3x3 filled with 3 fat bushes....to get rid of heat i saw a "euro reflector" on htg and some ducting that i could hook up to remove the heat from the light and have an exhaust fan after the light and an intake fan before the light? (did i say that right?lolim spaceship status)....im not really worried about the smell....I;m just aiming for somewhere around 100-150grams dry and i feel this would be the best approach...please correct anything if it seems wrong or needs improvement

I'm also thinking of having 4 lst plants if room permits and then use my cfls from my current grow to have another 3-4 vegging in a different room and then throw em into 12/12 when they're ready,I'm also thinking of vegging for 4-5 weeks

Sounds quite similar to my grow. You're on the mark all round really, but you should worry about the smell though.

You need a good exhuast system shouldnt need to much for just a 400 watt. The least amount of times u transplant the less shock your plants go through and quicker growing. Of course watch your plants closely always and treat your plants for incesticides and fungicides.

hey just a tip run your ballasts at 18 hours not 24 hours during veg. The plants need time to rest, also its really hard on your ballasts and bulbs. Just some info past down to me from an old timer.
I use sunshine number 4 soil and an advanced nutrients line up for veg. and bloom.

definatly invest in an inline fan to keep those temps down, ecoplus has a good price and product for fans. you can hook a carbon scrubber up to one end (in) and have it push the air through your light (inline cooler needed) and right outa the room.

ALSO just a side note, but if your using tap water be sure to check the ph and ppm first. a super high or low ph can destroy plants, especially babies. ppm measures dissolved content in your water (chemicals, salts, etc..) anything above 500 can start to cause issues.

goodluck

edit: ppm should be low on the water fresh outa the tap, once you add nutrients its a different story

Well I'm planning on getting ph monitor when I get the soil and nutes....I guess that euro reflector from htg supply won't work... And would the exhaust fan and intake fan be fine at 100cfm? And would four plants fit fine in my space with lst? Or how many plants would anyone suggest?, I'm looking to get atleast 100 grams but would be ecstatic to reach 200

When you're transferring plants, you need to be careful.

Starting marijuana seeds in smaller containers has numerous advantages. However, your marijuana plant will out grow its planting container requiring a larger container.
When transplanting a cannabis plant from marijuana seed it's important to do this activity before the flowering phase. Give the marijuana plant a week to recover from transplanting then it should be ready for the marijuana flowering phase.

Say we're going to transplant a marijuana plant into a much bigger container.

Prepared soil in advance. The pot is about 2/3 full of soil. With a bowl made in the bottom about 4-5" down slightly off center.

Note: If you are using a soil mix with organic ferts it MUST be prepared at least 7-10 days before using it (the time needed for the micro fauna and flora to develop). Of course, if you just mix plain potting soil (pre-fertilized) with neutral additives like perlite, this is less important.

Use the handle of a spoon or knife to go around the edge of the pot to loosen the soil. The root should be extremely well developed by this point. Often times roots become root bound and are very easily removed from the container.

After you have gone around the plant entirely, turn the plant over using your hand to support the stem and soil coming out. I put the stem between your fingers and cover as much surface of the soil as you can.

In the bottom of your pot use the drain holes to push out the soil. Go around once and gently shake and lift the pot away from the soil.

Put the freed marijuana plant in the hole of the new container and gently push soil around it.

Top it it off will some more soil until it's almost to the top and just give it a good spray to wet it down a bit.

It only took me 12 minutes from start to finish. You should start to see growth again in a few days.
