Hey hows it going everybody!? I just picked up a Sun Systems sun blaze T5 system... The 8 bulb system for vegetating... The shop that I go to was very helpful and hooked it up but I was going to just go and get a 1000w system with a MH and HPS bulb and do that but they said that this was a better and faster way to veg...

What are your guys opinion? Thanks! Happy :bigjoint:ing...

Yeah CFLs are great for vegging but to be honest i would have gone with the HPS MH conversion personally. The thing about conversion is that MH is more blue spectrum which is good for vegging (just like CFLs are more blue spec) and then for flowering the HPS really kicks ass ESPECIALLY a 1000 watter, if you have the right space for it. Anyway though im sure the T's will do well for you. What kind of light are you using for flowering?

i am pretty sure that i have that exact brand t5 myself, but i only have the two footer four bulb version, and i will never veg using anything but.. super tight internodes and much less electricity use are the positives.. i completely love mine and would recomend them to anyone who wants to keep a mother plant or clones or vegging as well...
just my $.02 though

Well... I am thinking about either doing a complete setup with HPS... for the flowering. I dont know exactly what I am going to do it is hard since its in a walk in closet u know? and also ventilation and odor is a huge issue.

Yeah, if ventilation is a problem then you did the right thing with getting the CFLs. All you'll need is a osculating fan and you'll be set. If you do end up going HPS then you should figure something out for venting cause you'll need it. Look into the cool tube reflectors, they are perfect for hooking up to a 6 inch duct and you'd be able to pump that hot air right out of your closet if you do it right. But you could just stick with CFLs throughout all stages.

How much slower do you think the T5s are at vegitive growth and how about flowering??? Anyone use them for flowering? Thanks for all the input! Greatly appreciated!

If you use the T's for flowering you'll probably get a little stretching compared to any high pressure bulb. There's nothing like good old fashioned trial and error though man so just go for it with your t5's and you can always upgrade later. Just to put it into perspective, ive done vegging and flowering under 50 watts total with CFLs and i mean they grow, but you just wont yield much. But you have 8 t5's which is pretty much the best set up as far as CFLs go. Trust me, your plants will sky rocket while vegging under that system.

Yup. We started a new seed/clone/mother cab with the T5's. I wont use MH/HPS lights for vegging anymore. Very impressed with the T5's. Ours are the T5 HO (high output), not sure if thats standard for T5's. Either or, I like em :peace:
