Arizona’s recently-passed immigration law has drawn heated debate on both sides of the immigration issue, but there has been little focus on what economic impact illegal immigration has on border states – a phenomenon that’s likely larger than many people realize.
Putting the law and morality of illegal entry aside, several studies have shown the illegal immigrant population is more of an economic contributor to state and local economies than politicians like to tell an angry electorate. The numbers can be broken down into the fiscal cost (or gain) of illegal immigrants to states, along with the economic contribution of the population.
The most thorough study on the fiscal and economic impact of immigration was done by the non-partisan Texas Comptrollers’ Office in 2006, which showed Texas earned more in taxes and economic output from illegal immigrants than governments spent to provide services.
According to the Comptrollers’ office, state and local governments spent $1.16 billion to provide services like education, health care and safety, but raised an estimated $1.58 billion in tax revenues. Based on the data, the Texas taxpayer made a $424.7 million profit on its illegal immigrant population in 2006.
Fiscally, illegal immigrants contribute mostly to state and local coffers primarily through sales and property taxes, which are mostly unavoidable. A majority of illegal immigrants pay federal, state and local income tax as well - 50% to 75%, according the Congressional Budget office.
Figures found in studies such as Texas’ 2006 study, or another 2007 study by the CBO, which did a survey of all data for the past 30 years and concluded that fiscal impact of services provided to illegal immigrants “is mostly modest,” stands in contrast to political rhetoric that fueled the passage of Arizona SB1070.
“The additional economic activity and tax revenue that undocumented workers provide to state and local governments simply overwhelms the fiscal cost to provide services,” said Dan Griswald, an immigration policy expert with the libertarian think tank CATO Institute.

that's the intention buddy. what's happening is that the current way of dealing with immigration, immigrants have an incentive to cross the border illegally b/c it'll take them years and years to get a green card....
i know a guy who's been here since highschool, he's 30 years old, has a work permit and still doesn't have a green card... he's college educated and speaks damn good english, slight accent.... he's been waiting for over 14 years and still cannot go to mexico and back freely to see his family...he can just work in certain industries.... no government contractor work so most large companies are out of the question..... is that fair??
Illegal immigrants are a huge burden to the economy. If people can work and still collect government assistance under numerous aliases, it downplays american citizenship. People are going to start throwing away thier social security cards and claiming to be an underprivileged illegal

Just to be clear, the plan is not nearly large enough to reach full employment but it is large enough to make a small dent in the unemployment rate... So dont come back here screaming about how useless stimulus is when unemployment is still over 8% after this is passed.

I am sorry about your friend but there has to be more to the story than just "he's been waiting" it's kinda like a job if you want it bad enough you call them daily and make sure to have every aspect covered that they require so when it is time there are no hangup's. Plain and simple the system we have in place works and it for the most part makes sure that the people who endure the process are worth having. Anything worth having takes work to get, but leave it to the liberal left to just give it away as if it has no value.

Illegals are Barred from collecting Federal Entitlement programs. A fake Social Security number might get you a job with a comapny willing to look the other way
But you try that with the Welfare system and your application will be kicked in 5 minutes
And every goverment study has shown Illegals pay more into the system than they take out
Illegals are able to purchase more than one social security card on the street.As in they have more than one name, more than one social security #. Its bad enough american's fraud the system, we don't need criminals getting away with it too. The welfare system is a joke. Its set up so that people can more easily commit fraud. Its the honor system where I live. The government doesn't even require people to show income or bank records. As well as numerous other things. The system is being transformed to make it easier for people who don't need help, to get it anyway. How it works in California is, the more people they can get on welfare, the more people they can get to vote democrat. Playing politics with taxpayer dollars. #1 reason I'm not a democrat.
