Just getting started - Indoors

I've never grown before. I've read about it a lot. I'm looking for some advice/help.

I want to start out small (5 plants or so). I have unlimited indoor space (10,000 sq. feet or so). I do have built in fans (2 of them 2 ft X 2ft and one 3.5ft X 3.5ft).

I'm looking for some input on how I should set this up... Should I get a tent and put it around one of the fans?

I haven't bought much of anything yet, I do have seeds, hoping somebody cant point me in the right direction on where I can buy a kit, $ isn't too much of a problem...

I'm new so really i'm just trying to get a feel for growing my first grow, I don't expect to grow amazing weed the first time, I just want to experiment and learn as I go. I've read a lot of growing guides.

If you need to know any other Info. just ask.

Any tips, places to buy growing equipment (online) and how I should set it up would be much appreciated, thanks.

Thank you! Anyone else?
Hi dude :) .... Welcome to Riu :)

Your ina a good position right now ...nothing started ... and been reading up a bit ... And no big expectations ... I like that .

Lots of people come here with pots full of sick plants and not a clue .... So allready your off to a good start .

Grow room set up and planning is a great place to start ... As pointed out above ... 1 ... 2 ... maybe 4 plants to begin with is fine .

If you don't want to go to all the trouble of building a room ( Lots of people dont enjoy building ) then a tents for you .
If however you do enjoy building .... it can be very rewarding to start with a space and build a custom killer room, designed how you want it .... Its Not as hard as it looks :)

Some tents come with dividing rooms so you can set up a flower section and a veg section, This allows you to set up a factory type production line ....or you can build one .

You want to think about starting off in soil ... or i would recomend Coco as its easy to work with and very forgiving on mistakes .

While you think about what i have said ... Go take a look at my Journal ....I started with a few bits of wood and some half dead clones .... and just did a shit load of reading and got some killer help from some of the guys here .

Again ... Welcome to RiU ... Have fun here and keep us posted :)

While your here ... Not sure if you will have seen this video ( I grow Cronic ) , If your up for a bit of DIY This will give you a prefect example of how you need to set your room(s) up , Keep in mind that this guy is not growing in soil though , Makes it look easy, But really all your interested in is room design for now ... Its a fun video though :)

OP,

Welcome,

What type of fans did you build? Pics.....

If money is no problem I am sure we can help, I think 5 plants is a good start to get your footing. Do you think you have a green thumb? I do like the idea of starting in ground coco. It is a good medium. I am using it now but blocks and mat. I also run a small hydro system under a 600 watt so I like your light choice, that's a good deal.

Let us know JR

Vento, thanks for the reply and the warm welcome :)

Like I said I have a 10,000 sq. ft space to work with, do I NEED a "grow room"?

If so should I just staple up some tarp to the ceiling and let it hang to the floor in a corner to make a "grow room"?

What are your thoughts on this light?

Ok ..im a bit more with it now :)

The light looks like a good deal ... the easy rollers for susspending the lights are very handy , I use them myself and i like the idea and the ease of use :) ...The yo yo's i doubt you will need but they may come in handy , Digital balest is a plus and it comes with lamps ( No mention of the maker but im sure they will be great for a first run ).. The Reflector " Air Cooled " ... lol im not sure about that bit ...its just a reflector , Air cooled to me normaly means it has some kind of fixture that allows you to connect ducting ... but we can over look that as an advertising error maybe :) .. The Timer will come in handy to

My opinion on the set up is it looks pretty good for the price and will be ideal for you setting up your first run ... you can then decide to upgrade or stick as you are :).... You might get it a bit cheaper if you shopped around for all the parts ... but not much cheaper ... So all in all it seems like the right set up for you :)..Good Find !

Ok you asked " Do i need a grow room " ... Simple answer YES ! :)

having a room gives you control over Heat , Light And Airflow , In a big room you have very little control ... A small room in a big room allows you to dial in more of an exact requierd enviroment for the plants .

If you have a large space ... and you get a couple of grows under your belt ... you can allways make more rooms in that big space .

You can start with just a framework and staple some tarp up ... or build a box you can walk into ... or maybe even buy a tent , I think after watching the videos it will make a bit more sence though :)

Your pretty luck man ... i would kill ( not really ) for a space that size ...set up a nice triple room ... Seed/ clone / Veg room.... Flower room .... Drying room ... hehe maybe even a littl gmaes room with a wide screen a PS3 so i could chill with my buddys and smoke the shit from my factory :P

Hope this all makes sence ... Keep us posted :)

if you've got that much space and money really isn't a concern, go here.

http://www.thcfarmer.com/forums/f131/

I hate to direct someone to another forum but DoubleD is brilliant. He pulled 43 lbs off of 10 plants indoors in 3 months. Crazy. Of course, he has the perfect high yielding strain for it and such but if you've got that much space, money isn't too big of an issue but you're concerned with plant counts, that forum already has a wealth of knowledge for you.

I only wish i had that kind of space and cash. I'd be running 30k+ of lighting. At least I can dream :)
