what if with your 400w hps or whatever your using if you added like LED xmas lights because i have seen like those rope lights that are all red and all blue, what if you either put them on the walls like wrapping the walls with them or actually wrapping the plant with them (very carefully of course) I wonder if that would give the plants the sufficient amount of light or even potentially having any extra light that they could possibly use to grow. All the lights on the LED rope lights are 1w each so it would be really similar to the ufo and the square panels just in rope style. LIKE I SAID ITS JUST AN IDEA any comments i wanna see someone do it because im not advanced enough to do that haha i wanna see some opinions on this as well =:bigjoint:
man am i faded

and i already posted this thread in the Grow room design and set up but i thought more people would be able to see it in this thread so i posted it again
sorry if that made you mad =\

i was thinking about getting waterproof led striplights to try to bulk up the lower nugs, but i didnt even think about christmas lights. i like it, seems like the problem would be getting the right spectrum. i dont know anything about leds, but a few strings in a room could add 50-100w, right at the bottom.

theyre pretty cheap right now. online a 50-light string is about $15. it looks like you just have to get the right wavelength of red and mix in some blues. you cpuld probably buy a string of red and some replacement blue leds. i think the ratio is 4 red/1 blue. i might be heading to wallyworld today...

no not to just grow with but just to add light to your grow, i mean if you put some blue and red led rope lights in the braches, or around the branches to just add light, more light = more growth

I don't think the lights in the l.e.d. christmas lights are as powerful as the l.e.d. diodes used in an actually grow light. I think it's more about saving energy rather than illuminating a room with those type of lights (LED christmas lights).

idk i haven't really done any research, just was wondering if it would add any light that the plant can use for growing. its low cost and energy saving lol

When the Independance Day 'xmas light' strings went on sale at Walmart last, I got 3 strings for $10. The price was good and it was even better because these strings only have red, white and blue lights. A few hot glue gun sticks later I had a 12"x14" grow light but since they aren't real LEDs (Duh, right? The strings run off 120vAC) this turned into just a learning experience. The light output is decent enough for houseplants but the problem is how much heat it puts off. You can hold your hand above and feel it...

If you find some RW&B strings on clearance, it might be worth hanging them as side lighting but it seems clear to me they'll never work as a primary light source. Maybe supplementing flrs/CFLs would be a good application.
