I got 2 lights from a friend of mine but i don't know if they are good for growing. one is a long light that says plant & aquarium Ecolux Widesprectrum 40 watt and has a blue color and the other says Eclipse Natural Daylight And it has a red glow... I've never grown before and don't know anything about lighting so can someone help me out?

blue = veg
red = flowering

i wouldnt go with those lights.
btw, you dont even know spectrums of those lights.

buy CFL's, theyre good and cheap. ~40w for each plant.

If you can't do HID the T5's work well, plus you can get the red bulbs for about $19. SO ONE SOCKET 2 SPECTRUMS... sorry stupid cap. key.... T5 & cfls for side & extra is a good cheap plan for those who can't HID... luck..

dont cfl's come in different K's? whats good for veg so i can add to my T5's

i am currently doing a cfl grow. the girls are 6 weeks old today and looking good! i've got 4 of them in a cupboard with a 125watt cfl and this seems to be plenty. you can buy cool white and warm white spectrum cfl's and ebay does a good range of them called envirolite. they aren't too dear either. don't know how cfl's work for flowering but i'll let ya know in a few weeks.

oh aye, 'k'elvin's; 64000 is good for veg, down to about 26000 for flowering
