Pada's post reminded me... one summer I did work on the Navy base as a carnie.... The carnival came to town each year and we found out they hired local kids to work it. My older brother and I worked on kids rides...
it consisted of a pair of vice grips as the "key" to turn the ride on and then anytime an older kid was "forced" by mom and dad to ride with their younger siblings we would make the ride go 2x as long. They would hand us tickets to ride the rides and we were suppose to toss em.. but a few of the kids would save them then go back at night and ride free..

we also learned a ton of the "tricks" to win prizes from the full time carnies.. the lift the bottle with a string and pole game was not rigged you just had to move fast
