Jars vs. Ziplock bags

what do you think?

I would also like to hear some opinions before I go out and buy a bunch of jars when I could just use the giant ziploc freezer bag that are in my kitchen.

I would use Mason Jar's - 1 quarts are nice. You could get about a pound in a case of them dry.

They are reusable

When I had big outdoor harvest I would always get the double freezer bags. Those that have the solid outside and holy liner. Those kept fine in the freezer for well over a year.

Jars, if the bags were a viable option we would all be using them. trichomes and plastic dont work, trust me.

Your oxygen transfer rate will but much greater with ziplock bags, so for long term storage, they are not your best option. If you're a commercial grower, ziplock bags work fine as I assume commercial growers have a quick turn-around and stuffing a few pounds of product into mason jars is a waste of space, money and time. Now I'd be willing to bet that commercial growers store their personal stash in jars, so there ya go.

Plastic bags are more than a viable option. Like I said I've kept smoke in them for well over a year, no problems. I'm sure it would've lasted a whole lot longer if I didn't smoke it all! I like jars as well but for long term storage and price they just become a burden and waste of space.

You're going to lose resin in any container if you're jostling it around. My stash jar is caked with resin.

I go with huge mason jars, have a shitload of em, but it does seem to actually cure slower with glass jars as opposed to turkey bags or heavy duty ziplocks, I picked up Mandalas hashberry, and I was reading on their website that they think curing in plastic bags is better....its hard to agree with them since most everyone says glass, weird that a seed company would say to cure in ziplocks rather than glass, makes me wonder if there's really any need for glass jars??

yea that also makes me wonder if there is any truth to saying that glass is better. One thing i have noticed is that when you first begin to cure your buds if you use a bag you need to open it more frequently that you do when the buds are in glass jars, i prefer to put my buds in jars it seems to give them a better smell and taste tho it does take a little longer to cure

I dunno, I never had very good success with bags, tried it the first grow and decided never to make that mistake again, if you know what your doing i guess bags could be alright.

Many plastics can leave a plastic taste to cured bud. The type of plastic that is used in loose/bag/roll your own cigarette tobacco will not cause a plastic flavor but most common types of kitchenware plastic will. Glass is a much better option.

The trichs stick to the plastic because they have a static charge. They are also completely contained.

I'm with BrickTop on the taste of bud cured in glass seems to be better, but I don't necessarily agree that plastics give it a bad or "plasticy" taste. It's just simply not as flavorful to me.

I'm pretty sure trichs stick because their sticky. Just like they stick to your fingers, paper, metal, glass, and everything else they come in contact with.

True, but with glass you can tap it off into a bowl. Makes for a fat rip.

Sweet jar but i doubt it hold an entire harvest.

Yep. Glass is definitely easier to clean since it's a crystalline structure.

The real problem with plastics is the surface isn't smooth but more pits and valleys. The pits are still a lot smaller than trichromes though, so unless your smearing it in the loss is really no more significant. The biggest issue is the bag not being rigid, which promotes rubbing.

I just bought a giant jar from wally world, it was labeled as a cracker jar. My harvest was 5.5 ounces and it will hold it all. I'm glad I found it, otherwise I'd have to deal with 7 or 8 pint mason jars.
