Jack's Classic vs Advanced vs Fox Farm Nutes

As stated earlier in the thread, just make sure to get the hydroponics version if you're using a hydroponics setup. Use any of their other products if you're growing in dirt.

As as rule of thumb, if there's lots of calcium nitrate it's for hydro. If there's lots of urea, it's for soil.

Jack's professional hydroponics, for example, has 1 part which is entirely calcium nitrate.

Thanks you guys.

Jacks is sooo much cheaper than most of the over hyped "specific" nutes.

I use PromixBX amended with vermiculite, perlite and dolomite lime.
And nothing but Jacks.

Here are some more Jacks girls:

Jacks and all of the general use fertilizer's will work just as well as the bigger brands. The key is to know you are feeding an imbalance in veg and in flower, being prepared is the key. Wavels... Nice girls for sure but your first pic is what I am talking about. this girl looks like she was ridden hard and put away wet.(not trying to be a dick, wanna help) To solve this in flower, it can be achieved by introducing more Phosphorus to your mix. Veg. stage doesn't seem to be an issue but if you do have problems there then introduce more Nitrogen. That doesn't mean higher ppm's, no, it means you still use the ppm's as usual but instead of reaching...say 1000ppm instead of mixing jacks till you reach that number you finish at 900 and add more P till you reach that original 1000ppm. This will put your nutrients in the correct proportions. Nitrogen loading in flower can and does happen with these all purposes but with a little tweaking can produce monsters like in your pics. On another note, do you drop your ppm's after the 5th week or so? About the 5th or 6th week they will start to require less nutrients and dropping the ppm saves you cash and allows your girls to finish without the added stress of salts and mineral build up. Less is better at this stage. JAS

A little advice to jacks users... Use a scale... Don't measure the volume of dry nutes, measure the mass.

You'll never get any sort of consistency if you measure out dry nutes by volume every time. You can, however, make liquid stock solutions with the dry nutes and inject that by volume with high accuracy.

FWIW, I use a standard tablespoon (measure). The kind you buy at any store. Over 10 years now (all soil). Some of the results are link'd in my sig. This isn't to say that weighing isn't more accurate; I'm sure it is. Good luck.

Same here, the difference between a 1/2 a gram or so is hardly noticeable. I guess for all the OCD freaks out there it might matter...lol

I have used all kinds of basic dry nutrient types, from GH's Maxi series to Jacks. They are all basically the same thing, the only major difference is usually the type of nitrogen. I like GH maxigrow because it uses a little less urea (just a personal preference.) I have seen people use Maxibloom their whole grow as well even though it's got a lower nitrogen level. I'll tell you what though, if you want to waste a lot of money on fancy labels and bottles of water, get the liquid types...

Veg+Bloom is definitely our new Veg nute. Taking the place of Dry MaxiGro. It doesn't need Cal Mag or Silica so thats big for us. Plus its an easy mix powder.
Seems WAY overpriced compared to Jacks, or GH's maxi series(which is essentially the same thing).. I wonder why the high cost???

This OCD freak makes his own nutrients for a fraction of the price of even jacks. Sorry I opened my big mouth. Geeze.

To be clear, the Jacks classic 20-20-20 doesn't need calcium added to it then? The owner of a grow shop locally here that sells it for a very reasonable price told me the 20-20-20 is a one part complete solution, doesn't need anything added and is extremely reasonable, hes been using it for many a year (he also has the snake oil products all over, but hasn't pushed them on me once so I'm kind of inclined to believe him)

Hello friends,
I am fairly new and i just bought advanced nutrients Grow Micro Bloom

My question is how do I use these in soil, do I just use grow during vegatative stage or do I use both Grow and Micro and if so how?

Thanks for all your help!

Yes, during veg use micro + grow. ADD THE MICRO TO WATER FIRST! Then grow.

@astyan thank you. What amounts per gallon for each would you recommend for seedlings with 2 sets of leaves? And for bloom i dont start using that until flowering? the advanced feeding chart is confusing as it lists all three for all stages.

NP. Likely whatever it says on the bottle, I believe it's something like 1/4 the normal amount? It should be listed. Honestly get familiar with the charts, once you have it 'figured out' it's super easy.

If they're in soil, the seedlings likely don't need anything other than just water to be honest

@astyan yeah thats what everything I read says, i was just worried that they are a light green almost yellow but not quite so i figured it might need nitrogen. Is it not a good shade of green yet because its young, heres a picture.

@astyan Do you another question. If i start my seedlings in rockwool, how do I know when its time to trasnplant and what size and kind of pot is optimal ?

Wow, this thread is almost nine years old!
And I am still using Jack's only.

I tried some Mega Crop this past summer, and I was not happy with MC in a side by side with Jack's.
MC does not dissolve as readily as Jack's. MC is more expensive, and for my money, does not seem as effective as
Jack's.

I only grow in soil-less mix.

Hydroponic growers seem much more favorably impressed with Mega Crop.
