Jacks and ro water/cal mag question

sup fellas. After trying jacks classic first 2 years ago-I’d like to try it again now that I can grow. My question is about my water. I have a well and the hard water tests almost 400ppm .5. So I’m currently using ro water and megacrop(almost 6% ca). It works well-but I’m shooting for even easier mixing and cheaper price. Currently with the sweetcandy, cal mag pro, megacrop, and bud explosion it’s tedious to mix even when a stock base nute solution is prepared-and the cal mag product doesn’t fully dissolve- also getting gypsum in my rez(I think it’s fine white powder). Anyway I have a tub of citrus feed and was wondering the best way to supply enough calcium for my setup which includes cob leds and quantum boards. Tried gypsum and lime with the ro-had issues with ca deficiency(1/4c lime+1/4c gypsum per 5# pot). Is cal mag ok to use with jacks feed? Heard it wasn’t compatible awhile ago and never tried them together. Thanks there’s so much info on jacks I could scroll for days and my precise searches don’t bring up what I’m looking for which is using jacks, ro, cal mag, and cobs in relation to cal and mg requirements

With that much lime and gypsum in a #5 pot I doubt you need to add any more via CalMag. I use RO and add very little CalMag even in DWC.

I just won a MegaCrop package and will have to figure out all that stuff once it arrives. Planning to grow a couple identical clones using it and my usual AN hydro nutes and see how they compare.

I'm sure it would be fine to use any calmag product with Jacks. It's not like these different nutes are keyed to only work with products of the same name.

What are you using for media to grow in? It quite likely has some dolomitic lime or another source of calmag in it already and you could already have too much. That stuff ain't magic like some believe it to be. ;)

:peace:

1/2 and 1/2 roots 707+black gold potting soil .5-0-0 with about 15-20% extra perlite. Checked the bags they don’t list lime on them. Now my 12 day old auto flower seedlings have calcium deficiency in my setup. Watered pots in with 1g mc 1gsweet candy 1 g cal mag pro-took the smaller fabric pots 11 days to dry- plants have varying degrees of calcium deficiency at this point and have begun foliage feeding calmag. 2 of the smaller 3# fabric pots were ready for their first watering since birth yesterday and I hit em with 1ml protekt(balance out the ro water for less ph up)1/8tsp citrus and 4ml calimagic. By my meter that’s about 30ppm protest 80ppm citrus 300ppm cal mag or approx 50ppm cal 16ppm mg elemental for a total of 400ppm. Hope I didn’t overdue the cal mag but I think they needed it. I have my tent canopy temps at 82-85f and 60-75rh. With the 4000k quantum boards I’ve read and heard from trustworthy gardeners that the ca and mg def can often be caused by low leaf temps related to reduced/ nonexistent uv spectrum.so I’m hoping I just found a key piece of the puzzle they def are way perkier than over winter when temps were in the mid to upper 70s. Also my autos typically fully cycle in 8-12 weeks. I’m thinking that isn’t enough time for lime/gypsum to break down esp if my soil isn’t fully active.

Hmm, deficiency with 12 day old seedlings in potting soil? Bloom booster on 12 day old seedlings? I've never fed plants in soil for several weeks, any decent potting soil should sustain plants for weeks with no additional nutes. 11 days for new seedlings to dry in fabric pots?..... maybe root rot and nutrient lockout?

FWIW, I like LED, coco hempy pots and mega crop in RO water, plus 1 gram epsom, 2 ml calimagic, and bud explosion in flower. Some good reading here, I like the spreadsheets @TintEastwood has been posting. https://www.rollitup.org/t/greenleaf-megacrop.956634/page-11
