I'm starting four GDP plants and a strawberry kush.I have them outside and doing well, but will the winter weather be too much for these plants? It gets at the coldest maybe 30 degree.I have them in 12 oz. cups and I can easily bring them inside every night. They are only sprouts at this point.any feedback is appericated!!!

More than likely it wont work out well for those plants, due to several problems. Photosynthesis slows down with cold temperatures. Even at temperatures of 50 degrees (F), phosphorous becomes locked out and colder temperatures probably affect other nutrients. The short days will cause the plants to begin flowering immediately, and the sun light isn't as intense as it is in warmer months. Any frost and the plants are sure to die; they cannot absorb water that is frozen anyways.

ok so how well do cfls work?I can set them on a rack inside and get five 100watt cfls on them directly.

yes bring them inside ,

the frost will kill them ,

cfls are compact fluorescent lights ,

they screw into a standard size socket ,

so their pretty easy to work with and you can put them like 2 " above your plants without burning them ,

use the 6500k to veg them

and when you switch to 12/12 use the 2700k ,

the ( k ) is the light/color spectrum ,

the 6500k is a bright white color

and the 2700k is a reddish/orange color ...

the lights have a color temp what he means by the 6500k 2700k
plug in the lights and if the light is white its 6500k
if its red its 2700k

You can use only 6500k to veg and when you begin flower switch out 1 more than half of the clf with the 2700k (they like both spectrums during flower)

Use 6400k spec (blue) for veg WITH a couple 2700k spec (red) aswell. Keep on a 18on and 6 off light cycle. Once you want it to flower change to more reds and less blue lights and change cycle to 12/12. CFL's work fine as long as you have enough of them. 400-600w of cfl's on 4ft plant should be sufficient. remember to spread them around the plant and not just at the top.
